Yesterday we celebrated the fact that after months of waiting, we are finally the publisher of freedomtravel.se. Isn't that worth raising a glass to on a Happy Friday? Otherwise, we've been working and working, partying and applying for another important document. What has been the best part of your week?

What is a responsible publisher?

A responsible publisher is a responsible person under the Freedom of the Press Act or the Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression. For certain media (newspapers, radio and TV) must there is a responsible publisher, while for other media (websites and publications published less than four times a year) it is voluntary.

Why become a responsible publisher?

By becoming a responsible publisher, you benefit from constitutional protection, which means, among other things, that the publisher is responsible for everything that is published (that's why we have to approve comments), but also that communicators have the right to remain anonymous and that the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its rules on personal data processing do not apply, if it would interfere with rights under the Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression.

As a blogger, you don't have to be a responsible publisher at all, but since we're serious about our website, it's good for us. To become a responsible publisher, we had to send in a lot of paperwork, pay a sum of money and wait six months. Given this effort, we want to celebrate that it's done!

Parties, jobs and visas

What about the rest of the week? On Friday we celebrated my (Helena's) brother's 50th birthday. Very nice! We didn't actually take any photos, and I don't know if it was because we forgot, or because we simply relaxed...

The rest of the week has been mostly work. I have a deadline (or dead line as my boss says) on two reports, and Peter is working hard here at home with invoicing, bookkeeping and cleaning up some old blog posts that need refreshing. In addition, we have had time to apply for a visa for our trip to Sweden. Sri Lanka this winter. We are really looking forward to this!
