Amazing holidays in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is a country full of surprises! This colourful eastern country has a dreamy air about it, with a history that tells of camel caravans along the Silk Road and an early cultural centre of Central Asia.

For thousands of years, this region has been a centre of international trade and cultural exchange, with even Vikings trading here. But did you know that today the country is also very exciting to visit as a tourist?

On the ground in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.

We have visited Uzbekistan twice and were fascinated not least by the hospitality, the friendly people and how safe and secure it feels to travel in this country.

Uzbekistan offers many historical sights, many of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but also amazing silk products, beautiful handicrafts, good food, captivating dance and music, dramatic nature with high mountains, and much, much more.

We have travelled extensively in our lives, visiting many different countries around the world, and yet travelling to Uzbekistan offered something special. This part of the world was a bit of a white spot on the map for us before, and we were overwhelmed by the bright colours and exciting culture. A memory for life!

As Uzbekistan Tourism Ambassadors, we will, among other things, participate in various events and share our travel experiences in the country. There will also be more trips to Uzbekistan, to discover and share even more aspects of this fascinating country.

Uzbekistan - an exciting and welcoming country

Swedes and other Nordic citizens can travel visa-free to Uzbekistan for up to 30 days, and you can choose between travelling on your own or seeking out a guided package tour. While travelling in this exciting and welcoming country you can discover, among other things:

  • A wonderful symbiosis of ancient settled (especially the Fergana Valley) and nomadic (South-East and North-West) civilisations, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy cultural, ethnic and gastronomic tourism.
  • Samarkand is a mythical city with a long history, stunning architecture and colourful crafts. Here you can experience the historic and dazzlingly beautiful Registan Square, which, along with several other buildings in the city, is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
  • Bukhara is another historic gem, with a stunning city centre that is also on UNESCO's prestigious list. Here you can admire one fascinating building after another.
  • Chiva with its minarets, mosques, madrassahs and palaces, all packed into a compact and walkable space, feels like a perfectly preserved open-air museum.
  • Tashkent is an exciting capital city where modern life is mixed with a big dose of tradition and culture. Here you can experience huge markets and a metro that offers an art experience.
  • Shopping in Uzbekistan is one of the highlights of a trip to the country. It's great to browse through colourful fabrics, silk scarves and local crafts.
  • Food in Uzbekistan is an important part of the travelling experience! In addition to the national dish Plov (pilaff), you can try pies, dumplings, soups, salads, meat dishes, nuts and many other goodies.
