When you're travelling almost all the time, do you have time to dream of new destinations? Well, we have a whole bunch of destinations that we fantasise about. There are places that have been on our minds for a very long time, or that we have found inspiration for recently ...
Table of contents
Our dream destinations
What is a dream destination? For us, it's places we've become curious about after hearing or reading about them, or perhaps seeing pictures or films. Sometimes they are places that are far away or expensive to visit - and in some cases they are places we may never go. In other cases, they are places we really hope to get to one day!
1. Svalbard
Svalbard is an exotic place that we both dream of visiting one day. I (Helena) explored the possibilities of travelling here when I was young, but the costs got in the way. To experience this northern archipelago at some point in my life would be special!

2. Japan
Japan has an exotic flavour, and we've always been fascinated by both the culture and the food. Now that there are direct flights from Sweden, Japan has clearly emerged as a possible destination.

3. South Korea
South Korea has become more and more popular as a travel destination. We were initially inspired by other bloggers and content creators. Then we watched the TV series ”Pachinko”, which tells the story of a Korean family through several generations, and after that the interest grew even more.

4. Romania
We have long been curious about Romania. How exciting does it sound to visit Transylvania? Our guest writers have also shared inspiring stories about both Bucharest and the Romanian countryside. In fact, we are thinking of bringing the motorhome here, but it won't be this year, as we have other plans.

5th Berlin
How is it possible that we have not been to Berlin yet? Well, you might ask, and it's certainly not an impossible destination. We want to discover this city one day. Seems exciting in many ways!

6. The city-countries
We have visited Uzbekistan three times now and we love the feeling of experiencing a completely different culture. Somehow the experiences are extra strong and you get that intense feeling of really be travelling. But there are other countries, and it would also be interesting to visit Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan or Tajikistan, for example.

7. Canada
We have visited Halifax once, when I was there for a conference during my time as a PhD student. But the vast country of Canada is so much more! We see train journeys and breathtaking landscapes ahead of us ...

8. Scotland
We travelled around Ireland and Northern Ireland with a motorhome a few years ago. Fantastic! We reckon we'd like Scotland too - the windswept landscape and all the history. Fascinating!

9. Nepal
Nepal just feels so exotic, different and exciting. Yes, it would be very interesting to experience this place in the world sometime!

10. Taiwan
We were at a events about Taiwan a few years ago. Inspiring! It turned out that Taiwan has a lot to offer, in terms of nature, city life, indigenous cultures, festivals and much more.

11. Finnish Lapland
Finnish Lapland is getting a lot of visibility on social media. Foreign influencers are making the snowy landscape look incredibly dreamy - with dog sled rides and starry skies. Plus, who doesn't want to meet Father Christmas?

12. Azores
Sometimes called the ”Hawaii of Europe”, the Azores really do feel like an exotic and exciting place. Every time we go to a trade fair, we look at pictures from the Azores and get excited.

13. South and Central America
We have not travelled in this part of the world at all, so it is difficult to pick out specific countries or places, but it would be interesting to visit Bolivia, Peru or El Salvador, for example.

14. Namibia
We have seen absolutely stunning photos, both on Instagram and on blogs. What a landscape! We have long dreamed of visiting Namibia, so of course it feels great that the country is on our agenda this year.

15. The coast of Norway
We have of course visited Norway on a few occasions, and we have, among other things, been in nice Bodö. However, we have large parts of the Norwegian coastline not seen. A dream trip would be to travel with one of the boats - Hurtigruten or Havila Kystruten. Another option is to take the motorhome, and we plan to do that this summer!

Scottland and Japan are on my bucket list. Will probably be Scottland next year. I also want to visit some African countries and I am not talking about the northern parts.
Also thinking of the 7 new wonders. Coloseum and Chithen Itza we have visited, but the rest I want to see

I loved the Romanian countryside. It felt so genuine and cosy.
Nepal and Kazakhstan, of course, I dream away to as they are two trips I have already booked.
As 3 of my Top 5 countries are Panama, Chile and Argentina, I also dream of seeing more of South and Central America.

Funny that I also have Namibia on my list 🙂 but also South Korea .. many African countries are interesting but also difficult with some mosquito-borne diseases. In Europe it's Bulgaria and Sofia I hope to visit this year.

I really recommend the Azores. Very beautiful landscape, and the hot springs were amazing. I really want to return and swim more, but may not return here: https://www.bortugal.se/mork-turism-i-okand-fiskeby/
I've never been to Berlin and never wanted to visit even though I'm a German teacher, but I read about someone who tried this accommodation, which seemed pretty cool: https://huettenpalast.de/ and I got a bit hungry for this too: https://www.ritter-sport.com/de/berlin

But oh so interesting and odd reading! Had not heard of this fishing village ...! I have heard about the hotel with the caravans, fun idea!

I think I was somewhere around 12-14 years old and heard a radio programme about the animals on the Galapagos Islands. It has kind of etched itself and that dream remains to travel there. But it's so expensive and it's not getting cheaper either, the dream is still there hahaha.
Svalbard is also a place that would be interesting to visit.
You have listed some places we have been to including, South Korea, Berlin, travelled around India and I lived up in the high mountains of Kashmir for a while, there are so many exciting beautiful places.

Helena says:
Galapagos also sounds very fascinating!

Far-away-in-the-city countries appeal and for some reason we have never made it to Egypt. Of European destinations, Ireland and Vienna appeal. Then we also have a long stretch of the Norwegian coast left. We have been to the northern parts several times, but south of Trondheim it is worse with visits...
It's great to have dreams!
13 January 2026 - 12:23
Helena says:
Egypt is exciting in many ways, and reasonably easy / affordable to get to. Isn't it great to have dreams!

All the places you mention I have some sort of reference to via friends who have been there.
Yes, I have already been to a few and Uffe a few more. I no longer have a bucket list in the true sense. I'm busy discovering Madeira, but I'm also interested in mainland Portugal. An exciting country.
Good luck with your dreams and I hope you can fulfil them this year, at least some of them.
13 January 2026 - 12:24

We would also love to experience Madeira at some point! 🙂 Wishing you all the best!

Great reading!
Have been to quite a few destinations you have on your list, but not those with -stan in their name.
There were some extra trips in Asia during the four years we lived in Beijing. Then South Korea and Taiwan were ”close” Unfortunately we missed Nepal (but it became Tibet) Japan we also missed and which is on a list with us. At the top. I visited Canada when I lived in New York as a young man and travelled around there a lot. Very beautiful. Norway and its coast we have experienced with different ships, absolutely fantastic and inland by train. Something we would love to do again is a trip by boat along the entire Norwegian coast. .
We were ”close” to Antarctica when we travelled around Cape Horn. Unfortunately, we will not get there.
South Africa is on my list as well as safaris, but we'll see. Age and ailments take their toll so we will see.
And Berlin is close by, so you can get there quickly. A city filled with a lot of everything.
But right now, a lot of uncertainty feels more like a ”trumpet” in the US that has delusions of grandeur.
13 January 2026 - 14:07
Helena says:
I realise that it was easier to visit some Asian countries from China! Thanks for your comment and reflections in general!

Yes, I say about Svalbard too. Would SOOOO love to go there. It attracts.
Same with Japan, YES!!!
And Romania has probably fascinated me since I learnt about Dracula and Transylvania a long time ago!
By the way, would probably go to every place you dream of. One day I hope you put the US on the list too :-(. I understand if you don't want to come here now, but it will be better here too ... (I hope with all my heart, and believe it too). I think there are few countries that are as grateful to drive in as here, but yes, you have to give it three more years ;-). Then it will probably look a little different.
13 January 2026 - 16:06
Helena says:
Doesn't Svalbard sound exciting! And Japan!!! 🙂 And yes, we understand that there are lots of exciting and amazing places in the USA! Right now it does not really attract, but that can change!

Perfect, then you have some destinations left to explore. Some are easier to reach than others. The only destination I still have on my bucket list is Japan.

We always have South Africa on our travel list, even though we have been there many times, but we just can't get enough of that country. Hope to go there in January next year.
Another dream is to take the motorhome to the Faroe Islands and Iceland. Unfortunately, it is so crazy expensive, but you can dream ...
We've barely looked at Finland, so why not take a trip there. There is so much desire but not as much money...

I can come up with tips about Scotland. Driving in Quiraing is special to say the least. Would probably not dare with a motorhome but people do it.
