A visit to Äventyrs - before the premiere

We had the opportunity to visit the museum before its opening. The result is a sleek and modern experience with powerful stories, engaging exhibitions and an interactive app that accompanies you during your visit.

The museum contains a limited number of exhibitions, with attractive and engaging content. Right now it opens as a pop-up, with the ambition to become permanent if interest is high. The creators - Fredrik Erixon and Richard Läckne - are passionate about adventure!

A museum about adventures - and the people behind them

Adventure is not a classic museum with displays and artefacts. Instead, it focuses on the stories behind expeditions and extreme experiences. Through photographs, films and personal stories, visitors can follow people who have literally gone to the farthest reaches of the world - and often also made an inner journey.

The museum is very centrally located in Stockholm, making it easy to combine with a city walk, lunch or another museum visit.

Three exhibitions you can experience

Right now, you can experience three different exhibitions, plus a ”test room”. Over time, the museum will expand to include more exhibitions.

A Journey Around the World Became a Journey Within

This exhibition follows the adventurer Ms Fredrika Ek, who cycled around the world for 1000 days. The journey started as a great adventure through the continents of the world, but also developed into a personal journey - where meeting people and cultures changed the perspective on life.

This exhibition had a big impact on us, as it is not only about the destinations themselves, but perhaps even more about what happens inside you as a human being when you travel.

Death Zone

I Death Zone says the high-altitude climber Fredrik Sträng about the highest mountains in the world. The exhibition explores the extreme conditions at altitudes where the body can no longer survive for long - the so-called “death zone”. It gives an insight into the risks, decisions and mentality behind expeditions to the world's highest peaks.

What's really cool is that you get to test what it feels like to breathe at these heights - with the help of a nose clip and straw - while walking around ...

The Adventure in the Wild

The third major exhibition consists of photographs from the nature photographer Ronan Donovan. The images depict wildlife and natural environments around the world. We don't want to pre-empt this experience by showing too many of the images. Fantastic!

Test Room - how much of a risk taker are you?

One of the more interactive parts of the museum is Test Room. Visitors can use the museum's app to answer various questions. The tests cover topics such as:

  • what type of risk-taking you are comfortable with
  • how to react in extreme situations
  • what you would choose to take with you in the event of a shipwreck

The results provide a personal profile that links to the theme of adventure and exploration. Peter became ”The Carpenter” and I became ”The Captain”... What will you be?

A modern museum experience with an app

The museum has an app that acts as a digital complement during the visit. Through the app, visitors can access additional information, interact with the exhibitions and participate in various Test Room. It makes the experience more engaging than a traditional museum.

Café, shop - and restaurant in the pipeline

Adjacent to the museum is a café and a shop with products linked to the adventure and expedition theme. The plan is also to open a restaurant with theme-inspired food later on.

An engaging experience

Äventyrs currently has three exhibitions plus a themed room, but although the number of exhibitions is limited, it takes a good while to walk around. The experience feels thoughtful and modern, and the combination of strong personal stories, photography and interactive elements makes the visit feel engaging from start to finish.

As the museum is currently opening as a pop-up, it remains to be seen whether it will become permanent - but with its central location and clear concept, it has good potential to become a new stop for adventure enthusiasts in Stockholm.

We liked the exhibitions a lot - and would love to see a development with even more exhibitions (which will come!), or maybe more themed rooms around adventure as a concept, adventure for children or some other exciting topic. There is potential to expand, grow - and attract even more adventure!
