Yesterday we promised you some more photos from our week at the marina, where we live in a houseboat, and here they are. It's been a week of amazing views! But it's also been a week of dramatic (and unpleasant!) sights.

Beautiful days in the marina in the sun

The best thing about the week has been the sun. The temperatures are fickle – sometimes it’s cold and sometimes it’s warm – but regardless, we’ve had a lot of sun. Lovely! One morning when we woke up here in Pampas marina It was mirror-like, while the clouds painted a beautiful picture of the world.

Pampas marina

Mornings like these we don't want to travel anywhere at all – just soak up the atmosphere here at the marina. We love the views inland, towards Solna, as well as the views towards the city, towards Kungsholmen.

There will also be a lovely atmosphere in the marina when the restaurant, K4 Pampas, sets up its outdoor seating.

Beautiful evenings in the marina

The evenings are just as beautiful, even though we're not always out then. But when we walk home to the pier in the evening and see the lights of the city – it's amazing!

Sometimes we also have fantastic views through the window.

Walks with views of the marina

We walk almost every day – sometimes just to get some exercise, but often in combination with some grocery shopping. During the walk we can look towards the marina, where our houseboat is located among the other boats and floating villas.

When unexpected (unpleasant) things happen

But, sometimes the views are a little less idyllic. One day we saw that a small electric ferry (not in service), which was inside the marina, seemed to be lying on its side. Shortly after… wasn’t smoke coming out of it? And yes, it definitely was!

Peter was nearby when the smoke started, and suddenly everything happened quickly! Pampas released the boat from the lift and the fire department arrived with several units – both on land and by water.

We don't have an exact understanding of the background or the sequence of events, but we believe it was a fire in a lithium battery. What we do know is that it burned for many hours and that the smoke divers went in and out of the boat. We also know that the fire department ultimately made the decision to tow the burning ferry out of the marina.

The burning and smoking ferry passed right in front of the bow of our boat.

Then they tied it to a buoy in the middle of Lake Ulvsunda, where it was allowed to burn to the ground.

There were no open flames, but the smoke was thick and it went on for a long time.

Houseboat life – a special life

We don't wish boat fires on anyone, but otherwise we like the view and the variety. There's always something happening when you live in a marina – whether it's a sauna duck or a royal yacht gliding by. You can read more and see more pictures here:
