We rebuilt our houseboat last summer. We repainted the hull, changed all the panelling, all the windows and doors and all the roof. But the biggest change was that we rebuilt the entire living room, which is the top part of the boat.

You may recall that we decided to do a stability test of the houseboat after the remodelling? But I think we forgot to tell you about the results ... It was a proper test that started when the boat was on land. A number of guys came here with measurement equipment, scanned the boat with a laser and got the two million measuring points, which was then entered into a computer programme.

We got to know the village through friends who previously had a holiday home here and have visited the place several times. Here you will find a sandy beach, fishing boats, a long pier and great opportunities for walks along the coast – much quieter than in the large holiday resorts around the Bay of Gdańsk.

Finally, it was time for the defence and the defence party! Yesterday I presented my research and the content of my thesis in front of an audience. After the presentation, it was time for the opponent, Dr Craig Melville from the University of Glasgow, to lead the questioning and discussion. He asked tricky but good questions. I was very, very happy with the opponent, but after two hours of questioning in English, I was still exhausted...
