The Hel Peninsula in Poland offers fantastic views. This peninsula is a 35 kilometre long tongue of land that extends into the Baltic Sea. In most places it is so narrow that you can walk across it in five minutes. The feeling here, as you walk along the long white sandy beaches, is almost exotic.

The Hel Peninsula in Poland - Poland's longest peninsula
The Hel Peninsula in Poland is a long and narrow peninsula almost 35 kilometres long and only between 100 metres and three kilometres wide. A motorway runs along the narrow tongue of land. On the side facing the mainland, many campsites are located right next to the beach.
Hel is located just north of Gdynia, along the Polish Baltic Sea coast.
The whole peninsula in Poland - a tongue of land with a beach on two sides
The whole peninsula offers beaches on both sides. To get to the outer beach, which faces the open sea, you often have to walk through a piece of pine forest before reaching the beach.
The outer beach is possibly even more beautiful than the inner one, but the water temperature can be better on the inside. Swimming is popular on both sides, and surfing is also popular on the inside.
Plenty of campsites and rooms
If you want to camp, there are plenty of places to choose from. There are long stretches where one campsite follows another. Now it's low season and easy to get a place, but if you're here in the middle of the summer, be prepared to book a place in advance. The whole peninsula in Poland is very popular with Polish campers!
If you don't have a caravan or want to stay in a cottage, there are also plenty of rooms to rent in the towns on the peninsula. Look out for signs saying 'pokoje' (rooms).
Camping Maszoperia
We have stayed several times at the campsite called Camping Maszoperia, which is located right next to the long sandy beach on the inside of the isthmus. This is a large campsite with space for many motorhomes and caravans. There are also large and good service buildings, a small restaurant that is really nice and a shop where you can find some simple groceries.
Paradise for surfers and birdwatchers
If the coast facing the open sea is a paradise for sunbathers and swimmers, the inner coast is a paradise for surfers. Here you will find both windsurfers and kite surfers. Now, in September, we also saw a whole bunch of birdwatchers. This is a paradise, not far from Sweden, that we can warmly recommend!
