What to do in Dalsland - what to see and experience? Let's start with beautiful and colourful, with waterways, crazy nature and disgustingly picturesque. Here you also have Sweden's only aqueduct in Håverud where railway, road and boat canal meet together.

The canal museum should only be experienced in the centre of Håverud, as well as the glassworks and the gnome museum. Furthermore, Dals Långed is crazy beautiful and imagine being able to study in the craft school Stenebyskolan ... wow! Don't forget Gammelgården Open Air Museum, located on Majberget in Bengtsfors.

Köpmannebro and Upperud - the start of the Dalsland Canal

Dalsland is surprising, and it's almost naughtily idyllic. The lock at Köpmannebro is the first in the Dalsland Canal. The canal leads from Lake Vänern to Lake Svanefjorden and all the way to Östervallsskog in Värmland. Arvid Posse and his wife, Princess Christine Egypta Bonaparte, Napoleon's niece, lived here in Upperud in the manor house. Let's go!

The aqueduct in Håverud

The boats go on a bridge while the train goes above on its bridge and at the top is the car bridge!!! You should just enjoy Håverud and preferably start your canal boat trip or rent a canoe and just enjoy being in life. Have an ice cream and hear the lock gates close or open, and follow along on the metal bridge with its 33,000 rivets that have never been replaced since 1868. Let's go!

Dals langed

This is soooo cosy to drive along the beautiful canal and Dals Långed. Here is Mustadfors lock station, also called Katrineholmshöljen which is the ninth lock in the Dalsland canal. Långbron lock has a lock chamber and leads from the lake Långbrohöljen to Laxsjön. Långed's locks consist of a lock system of four lock chambers, with a level difference of 13.1 metres, and there is also a small, pleasant ice cream café. Come along!

Bengtsfors in Dalsland

This was our first time in Dalsland and it was beautiful! Here you can see how people in Dalsland lived and worked in the past at Gammelgården, which is western Sweden's largest open-air museum. Gammelgården on Majberget is also home to Halmens hus, the only straw museum in the Nordic region. Höljerudsforsarna and the Höljerudsforsarna nature reserve are close to the 18th lock, which is located just north of Billingsfors and is very popular.
