Description
Coaster in the shape of a sun wheel inspired by the Sami design language. The sun wheel is the central and most common symbol in Sami culture. The sun wheel can be found on rock paintings, track drums and artefacts. The skin of the track drum is a symbol of the Sami world order. The sun (Beaivi/Biejvve) gives all creatures life - light, warmth and growth. A white vaja was offered at the winter solstice in honour of Beaivi and her return to the world, ending the long dark Arctic winter. At the summer solstice, rings of leaves and flowers were tied and hung in her honour. We honour her through this sun wheel!
If you want to send the trivet to someone as a gift, it weighs less than 100g and can be placed in a standard envelope, larger model, without the risk of breaking it.
