Malmköping's swimming and camping - at Lake Hosjön in Sörmland

We have been here with our camper van both on sunny summer days and on a chilly autumn weekend. We appreciated the lakeside location and the nice service houses on both visits – even though the autumn stay also offered a little adventure in the mud…

Our visits to Malmköpings camping

During our summer visit, we were greeted by classic camping life: caravans, awnings, outdoor furniture and flower pots. It was noticeable that many had made themselves at home for a longer stay. We ourselves came with the camper for a short weekend and took the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy the sun. With the swimming area close by and nice service houses, it was easy to enjoy ourselves.

When we returned in the fall, the atmosphere was different. It was much calmer, and despite the sunshine, warm jackets were needed for the walk along the lake. Afterwards, it was nice to crawl back into the camper. Two different kinds of camping weekends, in the same place!

Nice location by Lake Hosjön

The location by Lake Hosjön is one of the campsite's great advantages. During the summer you can combine your stay with swimming and relaxing by the water, while the beach environment is also suitable for walks during other parts of the year.

Hosjöbadet is located directly adjacent to the campsite. It has jetties and an accessibility ramp. There is also a special bathing area for dogs.

Of course, swimming wasn't the main attraction on our autumn visit. Instead, we walked along the shore and enjoyed the view. The lake was beautiful even when the temperature required the warmest jacket.

Service houses as we remember

We appreciated the service houses during our visits. During the autumn weekend we stood near a heated and cozy service house, where there was even a crystal chandelier. A slightly unexpected detail that we still remember!

According to the campsite's current information, there are toilets, showers, a kitchen and washing-up areas, as well as a laundry room. There are also family bathrooms and accessible facilities.

The campsite offers several types of sites, including lakeside camping sites and dedicated RV sites. There are both bookable and drop-in sites, and several of the site categories have 10 A electrical connections.

Swimming, activities and excursions

Those who want to do more than sit outside their campervan have several options. The campsite describes adventure golf, a playground, boules and beach volleyball as well as boat, canoe and pedal boat rentals. The range and availability may vary with the season.

There is also a restaurant and café on site. Check current opening hours before your visit, especially if you are coming outside the summer season.

Walk into Malmköping

The center of Malmköping is within walking distance of the campsite, making it easy to leave your campervan and walk in to discover the town's older surroundings, shops and cafés.

There are also forest and green areas around the campsite with walking and hiking opportunities. It's a great place to combine your camping stay with some exercise.

Ride the museum tram

A special excursion tip is the museum tram in Malmköping. The trams operate between Malmköping and Hosjö during parts of the year, and there are stops next to the camping area.

It can be a nice addition to your stay. Check the current timetable before your visit, as traffic is seasonal.

When we got stuck in the mud

Our autumn visit also offered an experience we would have liked to have done without. We arrived just before closing and chose a spot in the dark. The ground turned out to be too soft. When we tried to drive the camper onto the leveling blocks, we noticed that we were stuck. The wheels sank into the mud and the car leaned even more.

Luckily, we got help from the campsite's owner at the time, who came with a four-wheel drive car and a tow rope. We also found the camper's towing eye in a hatch by the driver's seat. With their help, we were able to get out pretty quickly.

It became a lesson to take with you for future autumn trips: be sure to ask for a place with firm ground when the ground is wet, and check the place before you drive in – especially in the dark.

For us, Malmköping has worked out well for both a sunny summer weekend and a quieter autumn stay. The proximity to the lake is something we appreciate regardless of the season – although we are now a little more careful about where we park the camper when the ground is wet!
