Updated: October 2026 | Sonja's campsite in Löttorp on northern Öland offers proximity to a sandy beach, swimming pools and activities. We spent a few nice summer days here with our camper in 2013, hanging out on the beach, playing mini golf and a bike trip to the restaurant Lammet & Grisen. Here we tell you about our visit and what is good to know before a camping holiday.

Sonja's campsite on northern Öland

Sonjas Camping & Stugor is located by Sandbyviken on the eastern side of Öland, near Löttorp. There are campsites for motorhomes, caravans and tents, as well as cabins for those traveling without their own accommodation.

The camping area consists of grassy areas with green boundaries. The proximity to the beach was one of the things we appreciated most during our visit. It was easy to leave the camper for a while and walk down to the sea.

We haven't returned to Sonja's since the summer of 2013, but we have traveled more on Öland and collected many tips from the island.

Getting a place at Sonja's campsite

When we arrived in northern Öland, we hadn't booked a place at Sonjas in advance. It was the middle of summer and it wasn't easy to find a free campsite. We had to queue, and after a few hours the campsite called back and offered us a place. What a relief!

We settled in with the camper and were finally able to start getting into holiday mode. The campsite felt nice, and we stayed to enjoy a few lazy days.

Today, many of the campsite's pitches can be booked in advance. During high season, it is wise to be out well in advance, especially if you want a specific type of pitch or are traveling with a larger group.

Service, pools and activities

At Sonjas there are three service facilities with toilets, showers and washing up facilities. There is also a guest kitchen, laundry room and family room with shower and toilet. For those traveling with dogs there is a dog shower.

During the summer season there is a shop and restaurant in the area. The restaurant serves lunch, pizza and simple dishes. Opening hours vary during the season, so expect a more limited selection during spring and autumn.

In addition to sea swimming, there is a pool area with two pools, one of which is a baby pool. The campsite also has mini golf, playgrounds, bouncy castles and opportunities to play games such as boules, football and beach volleyball. During the high season, activities and entertainment are arranged.

We were mainly looking for a quiet holiday with time to read, swim and socialise. But of course we couldn't miss out on the mini golf!

Lazy days at the beach

What do you actually do all day at a campsite on Öland? During our visit, the answer was quite simple: eat breakfast outside the camper, go to the beach, eat ice cream and read books.

Our favorite breakfast that summer was vanilla yogurt with fresh berries. Sitting outside and eating breakfast without having to rush is one of the things we like most about motorhome vacations.

Then we went down to the beach. The weather was fantastic and we were able to spend a lot of time outside. It was one of those days when you don't do much, but still have a great time.

The beach and the sea are of course important parts of the experience here. For us, it was nice to be able to alternate between hanging out on the beach and spending some time by the camper, without having to pack up and drive somewhere.

Mini golf with a competitive spirit

One evening we played mini golf at the campsite. We were all very competitive, and Peter ended up winning.

There's something about mini golf that brings out the competitive instincts even on the quietest of vacations. Suddenly every shot counts, and the one behind starts talking about revenge...

Cycling trip to the Lamb & the Pig

After tips from several blog readers, we decided to visit Lamb & Pig in Löttorp. We rented bikes and went there from Sonja's campsite. It was a nice bike ride of a few kilometers through the Öland landscape.

The restaurant's specialty is called "Öländsk fest", and it seemed like a fitting name for the dinner. When we visited, a generous buffet of lamb and pork was served, where the meat was sliced in front of the guests. This was accompanied by various types of potatoes, vegetables, sauces and mixtures.

We thought it was both delicious and enjoyable. We definitely didn't leave hungry, and considering how much we ate, it was probably lucky that we cycled back to the campsite!

Lammet & Grisen still has roast lamb and pork as its specialty, along with a buffet of hot and cold side dishes. There are also vegetarian options. The restaurant is open during the summer, and it is wise to check opening hours and book a table before visiting.

For those who want to take their campervan to Lammet & Grisen, there is also the option of staying overnight at the restaurant. There are approximately 15 campervan pitches without electricity, with access to toilets, water taps and rubbish bins.

The places cannot be booked, but are first come, first served. We did not spend the night there ourselves, as we had our place at Sonja's campsite.

Sonja's campsite can also be a starting point for excursions to northern Öland. Here you can discover, among other things, Trollskogen, the Långe Erik lighthouse and Byxelkrok. If you want to see more of the island, you can continue south towards Borgholm and other attractions.
