Yesterday we visited two of the most famous holiday resorts in Montenegro: Sveti Stefan and Budva. It was interesting to see this part of the country, where there is a lot of tourism.

Northwards along the coast of Montenegro
After the visit to Safari Camp in Ulcinj, in southern Montenegro, we continued the journey north along the coast of Montenegro. It has actually rained intensely and been a little cooler, that is, around 23 degrees. After several hot summer months, it's almost nice! We have been travelling slowly and have been fascinated by the high mountains, which are everywhere enveloped in dense fog.
From Ulcinj to Petrovac
We first drove from Ulcinj up to Petrovac, where we found Camping Maslina. We don't book anything in advance and rarely check the campsites, but roll in on profit and loss when we see a camping sign. We simply feel when we are tired and want to stay, and then we start looking in camping lists and in apps. There is always something nearby!
Camping Maslina is a nice and well-run campsite, but we can't help but react to all the small caravans that are so old and worn that they barely fit together. It is not on this particular campsite that we see many old caravans, but they do exist. just everywhere where you drive past. In fact, we have never seen so many old, worn-out, crumbling and rusty caravans as here in Montenegro.
We don't know if they're used as homes, summer houses or storage facilities - we just know they're plentiful. So far, Montenegro hasn't made it to the top of our list of beautiful countries in Europe, but we've heard that it's best in the north, so it remains to be seen!
Sveti Stefan
The island of Sveti Stefan was once a haven for pirates, but today the small 'island' is connected to the mainland and consists of a single luxury hotel and casino. We admired the awesome peninsula from afar, but with a motorhome it was a bit tricky to get close, so we continued towards Budva.
Budva
Budva is a city with around 20,000 inhabitants and many tall buildings and hotels. The city is known for its long sandy beaches and lively nightlife.
In fact, according to Wikipedia, this city has the most millionaires per capita in Europe, with 200 millionaires per 10,000 inhabitants. But this place is more than luxury, splendour and party! Surrounded by high mountains and beautiful nature, the city has a lot of history.
The old town of Budva is surrounded by a stone wall built by the Venetians in the past. The historic area includes a citadel and the church of Santa Maria, which was founded in the 8th century.
Campsites
There are campsites in both Sveti Stefan and in Budva, but they were so hard written down on the net that we chose to continue towards the Bay of Kotor, which we have heard very nicely about. There was a nice lunch stop by the water, and then we got to experience one of the 10 top places on the whole trip. Read about the Bay of Kotor here:

Henny, it really is sooo nice here! I was perhaps a little unclear, it is not just the campsite that is 10-in-top but the area itself, but we have found a very nice campsite as well! Will return! 🙂

Steve, haha, yes you can wonder 😉 We do not know how it is, but we have read that there is a lot of corruption in the country and we have understood that many Russians come here and invest, according to the campsite owner where we live now, it is with black money.

Well, there you go. There goes another bias on my part. I had no idea that it would be so environmentally unfriendly in a "village" I had never heard of.
But the Russians are taking over most of Europe, so...

BP, there are a lot of Russians here investing and buying up, so that's probably part of the explanation. And then how that money spins on perhaps...? Funny that you like the pictures! 🙂
Rolle and Carina, today we went swimming and it was refreshing - the warm sea water is cooled down in some places by cool and fresh water from streams from the mountains 😉.

Beautiful! And nice with the changing nature! But maybe the beach here doesn't feel so appealing, too narrow perhaps and a lot of people. (Now I'm not supposed to be on beaches, but I'm still thinking. I want to be able to walk far and without direct congestion.
But I would love to go snorkelling here.
The old town of Budva looks very appealing.
Looking forward to reading about a new favourite place...

Ditte, I think it can be quite crowded in Budva actually, especially during the high season. Now it's September - during August there were more people. But we've found places where you can be a bit more alone after that 😉.
