On the first weekend of May, the Östgötadagarna spring and the first weekend in September Östgötadagarna autumn. An event that promotes the whole of Östergötland under one roof to increase awareness and sales of local products throughout the year.

To do as much as possible in two days, there is no better way to experience it than on four wheels. Here are some tips on three campsites and nearby excursion destinations in Östergötland.

1. The parking area at the Kanalmagasinet in Mem

Kanalmagasinet in Mem is located right where the Göta Canal begins or ends. This is the canal's first or last lock and that alone is a destination in itself. At Kanalmagasinet it is "first come, first served".

Should it be full, Stegeborgs hamnkrog and its car park are also nearby. The easiest way to reach it is by road ferry across Slätbaken at Norrkrog. When you have stayed at one of these sites overnight and want to explore nearby stops during Östgötadagarna, the following are close at hand:

Organising on Vikbolandet

Shop for game meat, charcuterie from game, and eat Ormsäter's delicious game burgers prepared in their own food truck.

The garage in Å

Here you will find exhibitions and sales of Swedish arts and crafts, wool and linen yarns, handmade ceramics, wood, brushes, textiles, local food and natural skincare. Don't miss the beautiful Å church ruin when you are in the small town with the short name.

Björkekind's local history museum on Vikbolandet

Below Kuddby church is Björkekind's local history museum. The house was built as a parish warehouse and was completed in 1826, after which it has been used as a poorhouse, housing and teaching. It is now a local history museum and there is also a simple coffee shop.

Ninny and Eva's concrete factory

Visit a concrete factory, it's not every day. Ninni and Eva create in concrete which they then paint. Dragons, frogs/toads and cats are some of the best sellers. But there are also many other items such as different garden figures like Buddha and different yogic animals, seasonal items like pumpkins, flowers and nice things for Christmas and Easter.

2. The car park at Vårdnäs Abbey courtyard

Just south of Linköping are the campsites at the scenic Vårdsnäs Abbey. In this area there are many opportunities for hiking and paddling when you have visited the day's excursion destination at Östgötadagarna. In the neighbourhood of Vårdnäs Stiftgård I recommend the following:

Stafsäter farm ice cream

In connection with Östgötadagarna, Stafsäter's farm ice cream is changing from an ice cream café to a waffle café. The summer's ice cream focus shifts to waffles, why not with ice cream on top? On the other side of the road is 73:ans flea market, which is also open. You can also take the opportunity to go for a walk in the beautiful oak landscape.

Inka ceramics

Visit Inka ceramics and flowers with an open ceramics studio during Östgötadagarna. In the shop, you can take the opportunity to buy ceramics made from stoneware.

Lökebo farm bakery

Take a break with coffee at Lökebo gårdsbageri, located in the countryside between Linköping and Kisa. Homemade of course in the form of buns, cakes and pastries. If you enjoy your coffee on the large terrace, you have a rural view of the forest and meadows.

Ölsbo farm brewery and hop farm

On the small farm Ölsbo, beer is of course produced and you can try it at home. Don't miss a guided tour of the hop farm and learn more about the important history of hops.

3. The parking area at the Torpön ferry berth.

Torpön is located in Lake Sommen, which is shared by both Östergötland and Småland, and here you have a great starting point for several different excursion destinations during the Östgötland days.

Ateljé Tita Jewellery making workshop

At Atelier Tita you can visit the workshop or buy jewellery in the shop. It produces unique jewellery in silver and precious metals.

Brostorp farm

Time for a little coffee stop. Enjoy warm cheesecake in the cosy café at Brostorp's farm or buy some good cheese, cheesecake or maybe a nice t-shirt with a rural motif.

The shop in Svalsjö and Per's mechanical cabinet

Load up with a little extra time because you can stay here for a while. Visit the old country store and look at the exhibitions and look into Per's mechanical cabinet, which is a bit like an inventor's workshop, equally fun for young and old. The café serves östgötabakverket, cardamom buns and Svalsjö Kringlor.

Nääs farm brewery

If you visit Nääs farm brewery, you will find more than "just" beer. The farm shop sells lambskin, game meat and smoked meat from Nääs kött & vilt. In the bar you can try a beer plank with a tasting of four of Nääs' beers or buy their folk beer to take home from the farm shop. Lunch is also served during Östgötadagarna.

Östgötadagarna autumn

The first weekend in September is the time for autumn events. More information about each venue, opening hours and directions can be found at Östgötadagarna event page. You will also find a digital map with many more places to visit during the event.
