Middle East unrest may affect travel
This weekend's attacks on Iran, by the US and Israel, and reports of the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, have led to heightened tensions and counter-attacks in several parts of the Middle East. The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges travellers in the region to follow the advice of local authorities, keep in touch with relatives and register in the Swedish list. Price still determines how much Swedes travel in 2026
As many as 8 out of 10 Swedes say that cost is the factor that most affects the number of trips. This is according to a new survey from the hotel and travel search site momondo. In addition, 23% say that how the trip can be paid for - for example via instalments or credit - is one of the factors that has the greatest impact on the decision.
Despite the cost focus, ambitions are high. Almost half of Swedes plan a combination of longer and shorter trips during the year. 24% plan to book 4- or 5-star accommodation and 15% are considering premium or business class flights. How to make your travel budget last in 2026, according to momondo:
- Set an overall travel budget for the whole year. Remember to include both long and short trips.
- Compare prices before you book to get a better overview of the costs.
- Be flexible with dates and departure airport to find more affordable options.
- Don't forget to include all on-site costs, such as transport, activities and eating out.
- Avoid unnecessary options when booking and only pay for what you actually need.

BP says:
Considering the situation in the Middle East, I am forever glad and grateful that we travelled to Dubai, Oman, UAE and Israel when the area was calm.
And yes, that's definitely the first thing you do when you step into your hotel room - you open the balcony door and check out the view,

Helena says:
Yes, right now, air travel in the east is associated with a lot of uncertain parameters. And agree, we always check the view!

Ditte says:
Agree with BP - Glad to have travelled and experienced so much earlier in life in the areas now affected by war. But oh awful about the world situation.
A room with a balcony is nice but it depends on where you are. In e.g. Bangkok and New York and other cities we have managed well without a balcony. It is rare to have a balcony if you live high up in a building.
But of course we want a balcony, especially if we live near the sea.

Helena says:
Yes, the world situation leaves a lot to be desired, for sure ... Also agree about the balcony, more important sometimes and less important other times ...
