Yes, we were supposed to travel to Africa again, but the dream of Namibia will have to wait. Why? You might guess – it has to do with the world situation. Traveling in a desert country by car requires … gasoline.

The dream of Namibia
Africa has always attracted us – from our first trips in North Africa and East Africa to our most recent trip in South Africa. This is a continent that beckons and beckons.
We met our South African friends – Henri and Michelle – in the Philippines. A little later we visited them in South Africa, and then they visited us in Sweden, where we did a three-week round trip in our camper:
- Part 1: Stockholm with foreign guests
- Part 2: From Trosa to Kosta
- Part 3: From Varberg to Hunnebostrand
- Part 4: From Läckö Castle to Sala Silver Mine
New joint plan: Namibia! Henri and Michelle have bombarded us with delicious pictures and put a lot of time and effort into planning the route and accommodations. They have a caravan (and a roof tent) so the plan was to take us around Namibia in a camper van together. What an adventure!

The world situation
But then came the world situation. Trump, the Strait of Hormuz, the price of oil. Is the strait opening? Is the strait closing? What are the prices like today? What are they like tomorrow? The world situation is unpredictable...
In Western Europe we risk increased prices. In South Africa and Namibia we risk a total stoppage of supply. And you may know that Namibia is a country filled with desert…
Should we really risk being stranded in the middle of ”nowhere” without fuel? Our South African friends didn't think so, so we've canceled (or postponed!) the trip.

Namibia – a future travel destination
We haven't given up on our plans to travel to Namibia, even though we can't go now. We would love to do the same exciting camping trip through Namibia – but next year!
Where do we travel instead?
Now you might be wondering where we're going this year instead? This spring we're mainly planning campervan trips in Sweden. The summer is still a bit uncertain, but we're making these plans right now:
- Various motorhome adventures in Sweden
- A motorhome trip along the coast of Norway
- Possibly a motorhome trip to another neighboring country
- An interesting destination in Germany
- An exciting experience in Sweden (which includes a boat)
This fall, there may be more exotic destinations. We'll come back to that!

Have you had to change any travel plans?
Have you had to change any travel plans due to the current world situation? What are your plans for the spring and summer – will there be any trips? Please tell us!

I was supposed to travel to Nepal, but considering that there was a stopover in Dubai on both the way there and back, I chose to cancel.
I think we made good decisions, and seem to have found replacement trips that will ease the disappointment. Hopefully we will get to experience Nepal and Namibia in the future, without worrying about getting caught.

We haven't had to change any travel plans (yet) and still have our sights set on both Italy pretty soon and Tokyo in late summer. But otherwise, if you need suggestions for the next few months and with a camper, there are both Jämtland and Härjedalen. Welcome up! 😎

Thanks for the invitation! 🙂 Well, we are considering all possible trips in Sweden. Haven't really gotten to the point yet, it's been busy... 😉

We have a flight booked at the end of the summer but it is a direct flight within Europe so that is how we will look at the time. However, we had planned to continue our mobile life for at least another year but then it is required that there is secure access to diesel at least at a reasonable price since we cannot imagine a motorhome here at home in the winter, so we will see how it goes. Now in the spring and summer we have motorhome sites for the southern half of Sweden and hopefully we will not have to change them.

Sad that you have to consider all these uncertainty factors... Sweden and Europe are probably the least worrying in any case! (Although you never know with prices etc.)

Haven't booked anything special so no need to change anything. I'm happy to be in the Nordic countries during the summer. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against travel to many countries now and more will surely be added to the list. I have a hard time understanding that travel agencies travel to Thailand, (also several other countries in Asia) Egypt and northern Africa are also on the list as well as part of South America. It will be tricky with insurance if you travel despite the advice... On the other hand, travel agencies want to sell trips.

A very wise decision. I mean Namibia has been around since then. It's so stupid to take chances. What's sad is that the travel industry is once again taking a beating, first the pandemic and now the unrest in the Middle East which is affecting so incredibly much. But one can hope that more tourists will find their way to Scandinavia instead...

Such a sad, but wise, decision! Absolutely crazy how it is now! So far we are not affected travel-wise.
