Updated: August 2026 | La Spezia is a port city in Liguria in northern Italy and a common starting point for trips to Cinque Terre, Portovenere, Pisa and Florence. We arrived here on the Freedom of the Seas cruise ship, but instead of going on a long excursion we chose to spend the day in La Spezia itself. It was a quiet day with walks, Castello di San Giorgio and nice views of the city and the port.

As we publish this, we're about to board the Freedom of the Seas cruise ship in the Mediterranean, but we don't have much to tell you about it all yet. We're about to set sail on a real Mediterranean cruise, but Peter got a head start this week when he boarded the Costa Pacifica, which was docked in Stockholm. What did he do there? He sampled Italian delicacies and learned a little about Europe's largest cruise line. And of course, he recorded a video!
