Skokloster camping – vid Mälaren på Skohalvön

We visited the campsite with a camper in 2011 and appreciated the water position, the promenade and a quiet evening with a view. There is a shallow beach here, and for those who want to take an excursion, Skokloster Castle is in the same area.

Camping at Lake Mälaren

When we arrived at Skokloster camping, we had no idea how big the area was. There were many caravans with awnings and wooden pallets standing between the trees, but there were also campers on a temporary visit, just like ours.

Although the air was a bit chilly, we had nice weather and were able to sit outside in the sun. We took a walk along the beach and enjoyed the fresh air and the proximity to the water. It was above all the lakeside environment that made an impression on us.

The campsite is located in partly hilly terrain with mixed forest. There are camping sites for motorhomes and caravans, tent sites and cabins.

Beach and restaurant

Skokloster Camping has its own shallow sandy beach on Lake Mälaren. During the summer you can combine your camping stay with swimming, while the water conditions are nice to enjoy during other parts of the year as well.

The campsite also has a restaurant, Sjökrogen, with views of Lake Mälaren and the evening sun. Opening hours vary, so check during your stay if you want to eat there.

For us, walking and relaxing were the main things on the agenda. You don't always have to do much more than pull out the chairs and enjoy the place you've ended up in.

Service and booking

The campsite has a service building with toilets, showers and washing facilities, as well as a laundry room. The campsite's website also describes an investment in a new service building in 2026.

The campsite is listed as open year-round on the booking page, but staffing and service vary with the season. Therefore, check availability and what services are offered before your visit, especially if you are coming during the low season. When booking, you will also see which pitches and electricity options are available.

A quiet campervan evening

Our evening at the campsite was just as relaxing as we had hoped. We cooked chicken with potato wedges, salad and feta cheese and sat down with the food and a glass of red.

Then we looked at the view and had a good time. Sometimes camper life can be so simple: a nice place, some good food and time to just be.

We haven't returned to the campsite since 2011, but remember it as a nice stop at Lake Mälaren. The pictures from the camping stay are from that visit.

Take a trip to Skokloster Castle

When you stay at the campsite, you can take the opportunity to visit Skokloster Castle. The magnificent 17th-century castle is located on the Skohalvön peninsula and is one of the world's best-preserved Baroque castles.
