Spa weekend on Usedom
Usedom is a fantastic island in northern Germany, perfect for those who enjoy sandy beaches, spas, nature experiences and good food. At first glance, it may not be obvious that this is an island – you have to look closely at the map to discover it – but what is more obvious is that it is close to Sweden. The easiest way to get here is to take the ferry from Skåne to Swinoujscie, which takes between 6 and 8 hours depending on the route.

1. Spa hotels in Heringsdorf: Ostseeblick Beach Hotel
We first stayed two nights at Ostseeblick Beach Hotel, which is very centrally located in the middle of the imperial spa town of Heringsdorf, while also offering fantastic views of the sea and the long beach.
This hotel has 60 rooms and is a spa and wellness hotel, which could also be described as a boutique hotel. Today, the hotel is back in the hands of the descendants of the original owners, but the road to get there has been tough and winding. During the GDR era, the hotel was confiscated by the state and the owners were imprisoned – it was not until 40 years later that the family was able to buy it back.
This family-owned hotel feels very personal and cosy, and it is clear that a lot of heart and soul has gone into the beautiful interior design.

The Room
We really liked our room, which was both comfortable and stylish. The best thing about the room was that we had no less than two windows and a balcony overlooking the sea. It was truly fantastic to watch both the sunrises and sunsets.

Breakfast and dinner
The breakfast buffet is just the right size, with lots of tasty treats. There is no chef standing there making omelettes or anything like that, but there is a small selection of hot dishes and some luxurious touches such as dessert cheeses and salmon/herring in small, elegant jars.

In the evenings, if you wish, you can enjoy dinner in the restaurant. Bernstein. Every evening, a multi-course fine dining menu is served, which changes daily and allows you to make certain choices, such as whether you would like meat, fish or vegetarian as your main course.

Peter started his meal with an appetiser of endive, truffle and air-dried ham, while I began with a creamy potato soup. Very tasty!

For our main course, we both chose Iberico meat, and the meal was rounded off with a kind of apple mousse with ice cream and cream. A fantastic meal!

If you want to eat something simpler, you can cross the street to the cosy restaurant. Wehrmann's Old Heringsdorf, which has the same owner. Here, we both chose to eat completely vegetarian. Peter went for two starters: pumpkin soup and goat's cheese toast, and I chose a baked dish filled with feta cheese, spinach and mushrooms. Delicious!

Spa and wellness
Strandhotel Ostseeblick is a spa hotel, and the spa area is absolutely stunning. It is modern and stylish, and everywhere you look, you can enjoy the magically beautiful view of the beach and the sea.

There are many different types of saunas.

There are also many places where you can sit down and rest: indoors or outdoors.

Of course, you can book various types of treatments, ranging from massages to facials. We tried a 25-minute treatment with sea buckthorn oil. This was a warm, fragrant and very relaxing treatment, which was interesting to try. However, next time we will still choose a massage. In any case, we were very pleased with our visit!

2. Spa hotels in Heringsdorf: Steigenberger Grandhotel & Spa
After the first two nights, it was time for us to move to a new spa hotel: Steigenberger Grandhotel & Spa. This large and luxurious hotel is located along the beach promenade in Heringsdorf, slightly further from the centre, but still within relatively walking distance.

The hotel offers beautiful surroundings and excellent service.

The Room
Our room was really large and lovely, with comfortable beds, nice light and good work surfaces.

On the day we checked out – which happened to be St. Nicholas Day – we were surprised by a small gift outside our door, in the form of a cute little bag of chocolate Santas. A lovely little gesture!

Breakfast and dinner
The breakfast buffet at Steigenberger Grand Hotel & Spa is extensive and includes the option of ordering omelettes and other egg dishes from the chefs on site. There is also a wide selection of hot and cold dishes, and we particularly appreciated the delicious range of dessert cheeses.

The restaurant at the hotel, Waterfront Restaurant, is a bit simpler, but very nice. We shared an oven-baked Camembert as a starter. For the main course, Peter chose pasta with prawns and I went for fish and chips. Absolutely delicious!

If you want to eat somewhere a little more luxurious, you can walk 50 metres to the restaurant across the street: Heinrichs at Strandhotel Heringsdorf. We felt that the staff seemed a little stressed, but the food was excellent. Both beautiful and delicious!
We shared a buffalo burrata as a starter, and for our main course we chose pike-perch and beef fillet respectively. To finish, we shared again: a delicious little dessert with mini chocolate muffins, fruit and ice cream.

Spa and wellness
The Steigenberger Grand Hotel & Spa is a spa hotel, and the spa area is both large and beautiful. We enjoyed the pool and reclining chairs for quite a while, and we also tried some of the many saunas. We didn't have any treatments here, but there is of course a wide range of treatments available for those who wish to have them. All in all, we had a wonderful time at this hotel!

I would love to lie down under the thick blanket, it looks cosy, but I might fall asleep. I could also imagine the food dishes, hihihi.

Yes, if you're not so keen on an island safari in winter, you can always stick to the spa and wellness hotels. The treatments look really relaxing and I could die for the food. Thank you so much for sharing :-)

It looks really nice. We immediately think from a motorhome perspective. Would it be possible to take the motorhome there? Is it an island you could imagine travelling to with your motorhome? It's always fun to experience completely new sights and experiences.
