The restaurant
The restaurant serves well-prepared food using local ingredients, often with elements of both classic Alpine dishes and lighter options favoured by Swedish guests. A generous breakfast buffet provides a perfect start to the day. We had booked a hotel with half board and had dinner at the hotel every night that we stayed at the hotel. Every evening we came down to the restaurant, they had set the table very nicely with different kinds of flowers and beautiful table settings.

The menu varied each evening. A 5-course menu was always served.
The first two starters were accompanied by a choice of starters, often vegetarian and with meat or fish. Course number two was often a soup. Vegetarian or with meat or fish.

As a third starter, you could go to their salad bar and eat different kinds of salads, butter and bread. Every evening there were different salads. For the fourth course, there was an optional main course. There were always three different main courses to choose from, often fish, meat or vegetarian.

For dessert, you could also choose either a sweet dessert, such as chocolate lasange with orange or a berry compote with vanilla panacotta. If you didn't want a sweet dessert, you could choose to eat from their giant cheese buffet or from their ice cream buffet with different kinds of toppings and cream.

Breakfast buffet
The breakfast buffet was really amazing. Definitely one of the best breakfasts I have had. When you can get your omelette cooked directly to your liking, there is a large selection of different types of bread and cold cuts, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and when you can both squeeze your own vegetable juice and orange juice every morning, it is really top notch.

As the icing on the cake, there was also a good bubbly if you wished and good coffee. As if that wasn't enough, there was a gigantic selection of sweets and desserts
Every morning they have their own little Das Kaiserblick newspaper with information about the weather, what is happening in the hotel during the day, recommendations for various excursions and a presentation by someone who worked at the hotel.

Storage of skis in cellars
In their basement they had a storage room where you could store your skis and ski boots. It was also warm there, so everything was dry and warm when you put it on for a full day on the slopes.
Ski bus to the ski slope
Das Kaiserblick was about 5 minutes by bus from the ski lift in Ellmau. Then you took the cable car up to the top and had access to the entire ski area of the SkiWelt.
We were very happy with the hotel Das Kaiserblick. They really had everything you could wish for on a perfect ski holiday.

Wine tasting of Austrian wines at Das Kaiserblick in Ellmau
On the Friday of the week we stayed at the hotel, they organised a fantastic wine tasting of Austrian wines.
They had an incredible wine cellar with a huge variety of Austrian wines. The wine tasting was organised by the hotel owner himself. It was mainly in German, but thank God I studied German at school so I understood most of it. But he also translated some of it into English. But given that I was the only Swede there or English speaker, it was mostly information about the wines in German.

Riedel - world-class glass
The wines were served in Riedel glasses. Founded in 1756, Riedel has been pioneering grape variety-specific glasses since 1958. They were the first to realise that the taste and aroma of a drink is influenced by the shape of the glass it is consumed from, and have become recognised for their revolutionary design worldwide.
Interestingly, Riedel's headquarters are in Kufstein, Austria, where mouth-blown decanters and glasses are made by hand, which was only a couple of miles from Ellmau, where we were.
Five good wines
The first white wine was a Artner Winery with Grüner veltliner and chardonnay grapes. Grüner veltliner is Austria's most widely grown grape. The most prestigious wines come from the Wachau and Kamptal districts in the Lower Austria region. It was a very fresh and tasty wine.
The second white wine was a Sigl Grüner Veltliner Steinfeder from a producer in the Wachau region of Austria, also a popular grape in Austria. The third white wine was a Wohlmuth Riesling Ried Edelschuh from 2022 and was of high quality. The price of the wine was around 60 euros per bottle.
After that we tasted two different red wines. The first was a Robert Goldenits - typical terroir wine from Lake Neusiedl.
The Robert Goldenits vineyard is located in Tadten, east of Lake Neusiedl in Austria. It is therefore located on the large vineyard Heideboden, which is not a vineyard in the sense that one might first think. Heideboden refers to the flat vineyards that slope down to Lake Neusiedl. Robert Goldenits has set himself the goal of standing out from the crowd of wines in the region with wines that are typical of the terroir. It was a fresh and tasty red wine.
The last red wine was a Gager Cabernet Franc. Gager red wines come from Weingut Gager in Burgenland, Austria, and are known for their powerful cuvées that often contain grapes such as Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. They are often described as having notes of wild berries, cherries, spices, and roasted aromas, with a fruity core and elegant tannin structure. The tasting was certainly both interesting and educational.
