Nyrup's nature hotel is located in the centre of Frostavallen's scenic hiking area, in Höör municipality in Skåne. The Skåne Trail runs here, so you can take the opportunity to hike when you visit Nyrup.

An eco-conscious nature hotel

This is an eco-conscious nature hotel where glamping means a comfortable forest accommodation without electricity, running water or a car road ahead. When we parked our car, we had to follow not very clear markings to find the woollen huts (not going to tell you here about what markings, you'll find out if you're going to stay there).

Accommodation

There are six woollen huts, which are yurt-inspired from Mongolia, with 2-3 beds in each hut. All guests have their own hut but share a composting toilet, a communal yurt with wood burning stove and social areas.

We booked our tour close to the experience to get good weather, and we certainly did. We had blue skies and even some sun came in through the dense tree tops. After hiking in the area, we lay down in a forest clearing and soaked up the spring sun.

We received a food basket with local and seasonal ingredients for dinner and breakfast and accompanying recipe suggestions. All food is prepared by ourselves where we stand outside and chop and mix and then cook over an open fire.

During our visit, we were two other families with whom we had to share a frying pan and other kitchen utensils. Both the fire at the cooking place and inside the gathering yurt, we all had to help to keep the fire going to have hot water to wash the dishes and at the cooking place for our food to be cooked.

Sauna

Our booking also included a wood-fired sauna/sauna, which we appreciated. Like everything else, we had to work to keep the heat going in it, and also keep the hot water going with wood to be able to shower off.

We thought this was such a nice experience, with a large window on one side of the sauna that it felt like we were sitting in the forest and taking a sauna. And when we got too hot, we cooled off with cold water outside the sauna in the middle of the forest.

An experience that made us reflect

We had a lovely stay, we enjoyed being in the middle of the forest, the peace and quiet and really working together to e.g. cook, hand whisk cream, grind coffee beans, wash dishes and get warm. It was easy to start thinking about what it used to be like and how much hard work it took to put food on the table, especially in comparison to today, when our time is often spent on work or other chores.

I still think that SEK 3,600 for the stay including breakfast and dinner for two people is in the most team. We were lucky that it was not fully booked when we were there as there was some cooperation with the other families and occasionally it got a little crowded by the fireplace when we cooked and then only half of the huts were booked.

All in all, we still ended up having a wonderful stay and it was nice to work so much to just get food on the table and that the activity offered more social moments together than in the everyday life we live in today.
