Writer: Helena Bergström
Did you have a ”My Friends” book when you were young? I did, and so did many of my friends. We had beloved to answer these various questions. Now we've been inspired by other travel bloggers to raise this again - but in blog form for adults. Feel free to join in and answer them too!
Table of contents
”My friends” - first questions
- Name: Helena and Peter
- Age: 50 and 65
- Born in: Helena: Lund and Peter: Stockholm
- Family: Married to each other! Peter has two adult sons: Robin and Billie.
- Education and training: Helena: Doctor of Public Health and Peter: secondary education
- Jobs: Runs the digital travel magazine freedomtravel.se

Things I like to do when I am alone
Helena: I like to sit at the computer and create things. Peter: Likes to watch music videos or cooking films.
Things I like to do with family and friends
Travelling together of course! Eat well, socialise, experience things together!

Something I am proud of
We are both proud that we started - and stubbornly continue - our digital travel magazine freedomtravel.se!
Thing I regret
What a difficult question! Of course, there are lots of things we regret, but on the whole we believe in pushing on and looking forward.
Things I wish I did
Sometimes I (Helena) wish I was a bit more ”open” and spontaneous in certain social situations - but I'm working on it!
Favourite food
Fish and seafood! We are love prawns, crab and various fish dishes.

Favourite drink
Helena: Tea and beer. Peter: Coffee and wine.
Favourite book
Helena: I don't know... But the best book when I was growing up was ”Girl in Siberia” by Esther Hautzig. PeterNoble House by James Clavell - this book fascinated me when I was younger!

Favourite animals
Helena: Rats are absolutely marvellous animals. I have had almost ten domesticated rats in total. Peter: Cat. They are cool. (Everyone wants to be a cat.)
Favourite sport
Helena: Sport, what is it? Horse riding maybe, or skiing. But I want to practice myself in that case, not watch ... Peter: Football - grew up playing the sport and my grandfather played for Djurgården, as a striker, for 15 years.

What I want to experience when I travel
Wow! What do we want not experience as well? We love nature, culture, history, food and meeting people. The most fun is finding little gems that you didn't really know existed, those grains of gold ...!
Favourite destinations
Difficult! We often want to experience something new. We love France for example. Cappadocia is fantastically delicious, Tunisia is lovely and exciting, and Uzbekistan is colourful and exotic. There are, of course so many beautiful places!

Favourite tourist city
Prague is an amazing city! The capital of the Czech Republic offers beautiful buildings, history, culture and exciting museums. A very pleasant city!
Favourite attraction in Sweden
Helena: Hälsingegårdarna is incredibly impressive - what a history and what beautiful paintings! Peter: Two museums that are fantastic: James Bond Museum in Småland and Guitars - The Museum in Umeå.

Favourite attraction abroad
Helena: Wow, how difficult! But yes, Bukhara in Uzbekistan is special to me! German language Kassel Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe was delicious too! Peter: Calanche di Piana, the mountain road in Corsica, is absolutely incredible. Must mention Cala Gonone in Sardinia too, wow!

Things I'm thinking about a lot right now
Right now we are thinking a lot about an event we are organising (more on that soon), but otherwise... Well, of course we are thinking about the world situation!
Our experience is that people are generally kind, good and generous, but unfortunately this does not always apply to the power-mad elite. Absolutely, you have to take the world situation seriously, but remember - ordinary people around the world are usually genuine, lovely, nice people!

What I want more of in life
What do we want more of? Well, we get to experience lots of amazing things around the world. Men we have limited income and we live with a fairly large dose of uncertainty. It would be nice if we could relax more in the future! Maybe a bit more time off ...?
Things I wish for
We might wish for a little more financial security and a little more time off, and then ... even more adventure!
Places I want to visit
There are many places on our wish list, such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Namibia, Svalbard, Nepal and the Azores. Here we have written about destinations we dream of.
What I want to be when I grow up
We always wonder about this! We want to continue working with FREEDOMtravel - and develop in different ways!

It's nice to read ”our friends”, because I had a book like that as a child! I can see why you dream of more free time, you certainly seem to work a lot.

Oh, how nice that you joined us. Considering your favourite food, it's only strange that you don't visit us on the West Coast more often. Come on over!

Sure enough, I had one of those My Friends books with a little padlock heart.
Peter cat and unexpectedly you had rats, which I have a little difficulty with. However, I had dancing mice, small white ones with black spots. Bought one for 2.50 which was named Mimmi, the next day she had given birth to three cubs! One survived, a male who was named Musse. The rest, you might understand, became an extended family when five more babies arrived. The whole mouse family had to be returned to the pet shop.
Thanks for the tip on Umeå and James Bond in Småland
Have fun in the sun Hugs

Great idea with this presentation. Equally fun to read your thoughts. Thought about it myself, but since I don't write a blog anymore, I'll refrain from answering. Would be very long and a bit boring without pictures.
Places to visit if and when the world situation allows: Japan and preferably Svalbard and wish to see more of northern Norway. (Visited Taiwan and South Korea when we lived in Beijing otherwise those countries would have been included)
Prague and also Krakow are cities I am particularly fond of in Europe, as is Tallinn.
Favourite destination: France. As for Uzbekistan, we are very keen on it.
Favourite place to visit in Sweden: the Hälsinging farms and the mountains around the national border.

But what a wonderful idea and getting to know more about you who run this blog. I have also had rats: Busan, Trasan, Pyret, ET, Skrutten, Bill and Bull. But not all at the same time of course.
PS: I have nominated your page in my blog. Hope you want to join. 😀 https://hannaskrypin.se/bloggstafetten-2026/

Yes, after following you for almost 20 years, I ”know” you quite well. But you always learn something new, for example your drinking habits;-)
Now you have chosen to live your life with and through freedomtravel.se, and you have succeeded fantastically well with it. Not many people have managed to quit their jobs and basically live on adverts. But of course - that life doesn't offer much security. But in the worst case scenario, Helena, you can go back to your previous job and Peter can draw a pension. So it will probably work out.
Right now I don't really want to go anywhere, I think it's so terrible that a single idiot can make such a mess of things. When idiots fight against idiots, it can be really dangerous for the whole world, which it is becoming right now ...

What a fun idea. The list of places I want to visit is long. But right now I'm most looking forward to my autumn trip to Cusco in Peru and Bogota in Colombia. And to see more of Egypt would be amazing.
I haven't had much to do with rats but I imagine they are like guinea pigs. Once you form a bond with them you are amazed at their amazing personalities.
