Kristinehamn
Kristinehamn is located on the northeastern shore of Lake Vänern in Värmland and is perhaps best known for its large Picasso sculpture by the water. But there is more to it than that. The town has a nice mix of culture, small-town charm and nature experiences, and is perfect for a day trip or perhaps a stop on your motorhome trip.
We came here with our campervan – on the way to Norway – and we were immediately enchanted by the relaxed atmosphere at Picassoudden and Vålösundet.

10 things to do in Kristinehamn
Kristinehamn may not be the largest city in Värmland, but there are plenty of great experiences here both in the center and in the surrounding area.
1. See the Picasso sculpture – the city's most famous landmark
It is almost impossible to visit Kristinehamn without going out to Picasso Cape. Here stands the 15-meter-high sculpture Jacqueline, created after an original drawing by Pablo Picasso.
The sculpture was inaugurated in 1965 and is unique – it is actually the largest Picasso sculpture in the world. The location right on Lake Vänern also makes the place extra special.

2. Stroll around Picasso Cape
The area around the sculpture is almost as beautiful as the artwork itself. Here you can walk along the shoreline, sit on the rocks or enjoy the view of the archipelago. There are nice walking paths, swimming opportunities, small piers and nice views over the water.

3. Explore the Vålösundet Strait
In addition to Picasso Cape, you can experience the entire Vålösundet, which offers a long, beautiful stretch along Lake Vänern, filled with marinas, walking paths and green areas. A fantastically beautiful part of Kristinehamn!

4. Stroll around the center of Kristinehamn
The center of Kristinehamn is small and easy to explore on foot. There are small shops, cafes and some older buildings that give the city character. Don't miss Södra Torget and the small, cozy side streets.

5. Visit Kristinehamn Church
In the middle of the town lies Kristinehamn Church, which with its bright tower is one of the town's most prominent landmarks. The church was built in the 17th century and is worth a visit both for its architecture and its peaceful atmosphere.

6. Take a break in the City Park
The city park is a green oasis close to the city center, with large open green spaces where you can walk or sit down for a picnic. There are also plenty of activities for children and young people, such as a playground and skate park.

7. Visit the Järsberg Stone
Just outside the city center you will find the Järsbergsstenen – one of Sweden’s oldest and most talked about rune stones. The stone is believed to be from the 6th century and is a fascinating piece of history, not least because the runic shift has not been fully interpreted.

8. Hike in Kummelön nature reserve
Kummelön nature reserve is a great excursion destination for those who like nature. Here you will find forest paths, cliffs, swimming opportunities and views over Lake Vänern. It almost feels like an archipelago – but in the middle of the inland. We really liked the beautiful nature here.

9. Visit Kristinehamn Art Museum
If you like art, a visit to the art museum may be worth making. It mainly displays modern and contemporary art as well as various temporary exhibitions.

10. Stop at Husbilslandet
Are you traveling with a motorhome or caravan? Then we can also recommend Husbilslandet in Kristinehamn, where there is a sales, workshop and accessories shop.
