It was Monday again (time flies, doesn't it?) and as usual we're running travel news here at FREEDOMtravel. That means there will be short excerpts from the week's press releases. This week it's all about everything from parking hang-ups to dream attractions.

4 out of 10 car owners stay in the car after parking
The trip is over, but you don't get out. In a new survey from Riddermark Bil, Sweden's largest player in used cars, among over 186,000 car owners, four out of ten say they have stayed in the car after they parked, with no business left - just to have a moment to themselves before getting in.
The behavior seems to be rooted in the same need regardless of the situation: a break between the different roles of everyday life. The car becomes a gateway between work and home, between the demands outside and the demands inside the front door.
During those minutes, you are neither a parent, colleague, or partner – just a person who gets the opportunity to breathe before the next part of the day begins.

Machu Picchu remains Swedes' top dream attraction
The world's most famous landmarks continue to fascinate Swedish travelers. In Ticket's latest survey, Machu Picchu is the place most Swedes would most like to visit. It is followed by the pyramids in Egypt and the Great Wall of China – two of the world's most iconic sights.
At the same time, there is a decrease in interest in American landmarks. The Statue of Liberty in New York has dropped three places, from fifth to eighth place, compared to last year's survey. The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, which was in tenth place at the time, is no longer among the ten landmarks Swedes would most like to visit.
Landmarks Swedes most want to visit:
- Machu Picchu, Peru
- Pyramids, Egypt
- Great Wall of China, China
- Colosseum, Rome
- Temple city of Angkor, Cambodia
- Statue of Christ, Rio de Janeiro
- Taj Mahal, India
- Statue of Liberty, New York
- Eiffel Tower, Paris
- Leaning Tower, Pisa

Popular ski charter expands from Jönköping Airport
Next year there will be even more ski charter departures from Jönköping Airport. For the past two winters, ski charters have been offered with direct flights from Jönköping to the Alps, and now the organizer Lion Alpin announces that they are continuing their efforts and are also expanding with two more departures for the coming winter.

Reflection of the week
Hanging out in the car in the parking lot? I (Helena) don't have a driver's license, but I can actually figure it out...!
Dream attractions! I don't know if "checking out attractions" is necessarily the most important thing when traveling, but with that said, I would love to see these places. We checked out 3 and 4 out of 10, respectively.

Anna Nilsson says:
Yes, but I definitely sit in the car for a while, breathe out and breathe in. Dream travel destinations… I've seen three from the list, the rest I can skip.

Jossu says:
I don't have a driver's license either, Helena. When I commuted, I thought it was really nice to have a moment after work to relax and just look out the train/bus window. It was like landing after work, de-stressing and recharging. I guess it's the same feeling for car drivers. No focus on driving, just a moment of silence.
I have seen 4 of the sights, and soon Machu Picchu.

I think it's the case that some people like to stay in the car after they park, I've sometimes wondered why. From where I live I see people sitting quietly for a while, maybe checking their phone or checking their makeup before they go to one of the workplaces.

Madde says:
Also sitting for a while when I parked. I'm sure I just need to breathe for a while. Want to see the seven new wonders of the world. Two of them are already done, Chichen Itza and the Colloseum, so only the rest left.

Ditte says:
I found that I haven't finished but have experienced 8 of these 10. Taj Mahal and Machu Pichu are still there and will probably remain so. There are other things that attract me more. And since my back is not in the best shape, it's okay that I now have to plan trips carefully and no direct physical exercises are suitable.

I wonder if all those who stay in the car do so to breathe for a while or to scroll through the feed… 🙂
