Record season for Göta Canal's shortest cruise

Rederi AB Göta Kanal's two-day cruise The little canal trip breaks a new booking record in the summer of 2026. This year's bookings have exceeded last year's total and the shipping company sees a clear pattern: more and more Swedes and international visitors want to test the Göta Canal in mini format - and then return and book a longer cruise.

The small canal trip, a two-day trip between Motala and Söderköping with M/S Wilhelm Tham, has increased this year by just over 9 percent compared to 2025. These cruises are offered during the summer season:

  • The classic canal trip: A 4-day cruise between Gothenburg and Stockholm with M/S Juno, the world's oldest registered cruise ship.
  • Göta Canal's pearls: A 3-day cruise between Mariestad and Norsholm with M/S Wilhelm Tham.
  • The little canal trip: A 2-day cruise between Motala and Söderköping with M/S Wilhelm Tham.
  • The big trip to Sweden: A 6-day cruise between Gothenburg and Stockholm with either M/S Diana or M/S Wilhelm Tham.

Bookings for autumn and winter travel have picked up, with TUI, among others, reporting increased interest compared to last year. At the same time, a Novus survey, conducted on behalf of VaccinDirekt, shows that 41 percent of Swedes are unsure about which vaccinations may be needed before a trip.

VaccinDirekt's doctors therefore recommend that travelers review their vaccination coverage well in advance of departure, especially since some vaccines require multiple doses.
