Comfort and layout are important when buying a motorhome or caravan

The freedom to travel wherever you want attracts many to the caravan and motorhome lifestyle. But when the holiday dream is about to become a concrete purchase, the focus quickly shifts from the view to the everyday life inside the door. HRF's caravan and motorhome survey 2026 shows that comfort and layout are of central importance when owners are considering their next purchase. Next come price and flexibility.

When those planning a future purchase are given the opportunity to choose up to five concrete aspects, 86 percent of caravan owners and 85 percent of motorhome owners place the layout among the most important.

When owners are asked what is most important in the layout itself, the sleeping area comes out on top for both caravans and motorhomes. At the same time, there are clear differences between the two product types. Cargo space is listed as important by 49 percent of motorhome owners, compared to 28 percent of caravan owners.

Sweden breaks new world record in number of museums

Sweden can now call itself the world champion in the number of museums, according to Visit Sweden. Guinness World Records 2027 states that Sweden has the most museums per capita in the world – around 1,600 museums for 10.6 million inhabitants.

During June–August 2026, Sweden's museums registered 7.4 million visits and among museums with comparable figures, visits increased by 7.9 percent, according to the Swedish Association of Museums.

With around 1,600 museums, Sweden's museum offering extends far beyond art, Vikings and royal castles. In Blekinge you will find a museum about coat hangers, in Jönköping about matches and in Höga Kusten about surströmming. Sweden's first national music museum is currently being built in Västervik.

From ash clouds to AI: How the last 20 years have shaped Swedes' travel

For 20 years, momondo has been following how Swedes' travel has changed. In connection with the anniversary, the hotel and travel search site looks back at some of the events and trends that have shaped our travel habits:

  1. The financial crisis made the award even more important: When the financial crisis hit in 2008, Swedish travelers became more price-conscious.
  2. Films and television series have created a whole new travel trend: Travel inspired by movies and TV series has its own name: set-jetting.
  3. The Icelandic ash cloud: When the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull erupted in 2010, large parts of Europe's airspace were closed for six days.
  4. With the smartphone we get a travel companion in our pocket: In conjunction with the App Store in 2008, the first travel apps began making it easier to find inspiration and book flight tickets directly on your mobile phone.
  5. Social media changed where we travel and why: When Instagram launched in 2010, photos from destinations around the world became an increasingly important source of travel inspiration.
  6. Low-cost flights make weekend trips more common: Between 2007 and 2015, the number of low-cost flights in Europe increased by around 60 percent.
  7. The search for new food experiences: Food has long been an important source of inspiration, and food experiences have gained greater space in travel inspiration.
  8. The pandemic gave homesickness a boost and wanderlust a comeback: During the Covid-19 pandemic, many Swedes traveled domestically.
  9. Events and experiences guide the journey: This year's figures show that 38 percent of Swedes choose their travel destination and time based on the experience they want, rather than the other way around.
  10. AI becomes a new source of travel inspiration: New figures from momondo show that more than one in four Swedes already uses AI to find travel inspiration.

Reflection of the week

It's great that Sweden has so many museums, and not least different museums! We often like to visit those small museums that stand out, or have a very special, perhaps narrow focus.
