Updated: September 2026 | We actually went to Trapani on the west coast of Sicily to buy a SIM card. It may not sound like the beginning of a great Sicilian moment, but while we waited out the afternoon shops closed, we started walking through the old town. And suddenly we had discovered a city that surprised us with grand buildings, sea on several sides and a wonderfully Sicilian atmosphere.

Updated: September 2026 | San Vito Lo Capo in northwestern Sicily attracts with a long sandy beach, dramatic mountains and a small center where holiday life continues from morning to night. There is also a strong tradition of fish and couscous here and fantastic nature just around the corner. We came here by camper after the ferry from Sardinia and stayed for a few days for sun, swimming and Sicilian holiday life.

Updated: September 2026 | It is possible to take a ferry directly from Sardinia to Sicily, between Cagliari and Palermo. We made the trip with a camper van and chose the night ferry. The only problem was that all the cabins and other sleeping places were fully booked. It ended with a night on deck under the stars and a rather unforgettable arrival in Sicily.

Camping is very popular in southern Europe and there are campsites everywhere. But it's not motorhomes and caravans that are the most popular - on many campsites, the largest areas are cottages and tents. So you can go camping even if you don't have a motorhome or caravan!

Here are some reading tips! Having books to read is perfect when travelling; on the plane, in the waiting hall, on the sandy beach... We both read a lot and primarily use a tablet to be able to download new Swedish books even though we are abroad.

We have now reached the Costa del Rei on the south-east coast of Sardinia. We had to "escape" from the hot Cagliari, where we were parked in the middle of the sun without the possibility of shade or swimming. We have taken in the camping Le Dune, where we got a relatively shady place.

The campsite owner at Camping Sardegna in Porto Pino, Sardinia, asked us to move the motorhome back two metres. No problem! Since we were travelling such a short distance, we didn't bother to close the windows... but we should have.

Now we have made our way to Porto Pino, and a campsite in southern Sardinia outside St Anna Arresi. After a lot of free camping, we had a great need for service (garbage collection, possibility to fill and empty tanks and so on) but during high season or almost high season you have to be careful not to end up at campsites with completely hysterical prices. Camping Sardegna in Porto Pino had no website - which we thought seemed promising from a price point of view.

The day before yesterday we left Bosa and started driving south along the west coast of Sardinia. The roads wind their way - sometimes along the coast and sometimes high up in the mountains. We have driven past fields, beaches, high mountains and industrial areas, and sometimes straight through small charming villages (where the motorhome barely fits on the roads).
