Västervik Resort – Lysingsbadets campsite by the sea

Updated: October 2026 | Västervik Resort, known to many as Lysingsbadets camping, is a large holiday resort by the sea with camping, cottages, swimming and activities. We visited the campsite with our camper in May 2013 and especially appreciated the location by the water, the walk among the rocky islands and a nice evening together with camper friends.

Lysingsbadet and Västervik Resort

Lysingsbadet has a long history as a bathing and holiday destination. The facility was founded in 1933 and has grown over the years into today's Västervik Resort, with a five-star campsite and several different types of accommodation.

The campsite is located about three kilometers from central Västervik. There are about 900 camping sites here, so it is really a large facility. At the same time, the area contains different environments: camping areas with lots of service and activities, but also beaches, cliffs and small islands.

For us it was a stop during a camper weekend. We had contact with Carina and Stefan through the blog and decided to leave Gamleby camping and go to Lysingsbadet, where they were already parked with their camper.

They had recommended nice spots by the water, and when we arrived we were able to stand next to them. A great start to our stay!

Staying at Västervik Resort's campsite

Västervik Resort has several camping areas with different locations and character. There are places for motorhomes, caravans and tents, both with and without electricity. Some camping sites also have their own water tap and greywater connection.

At such a large campsite, the choice of location plays a big role. Do you want to be close to swimming and activities, prioritize a view of the water, or be a little more secluded? Please look at the area map before booking and choose a plot that suits the size of your group.

The area Chapel is close to the water and Korpaholmarna, while other parts are closer to, for example, playgrounds, sports activities or the adventure pool. We remember above all how satisfied we were with our waterfront location.

Service for camping guests

The facility has several service buildings with toilets, showers, kitchens and washing facilities. The larger service buildings also have washing machines and dryers.

There are water filling and emptying facilities for motorhomes and caravans. Use the area map to find the right service point, as distances can be quite large depending on where you are.

For those traveling without their own camper or caravan, there are cabins, caravans and studio apartments.

Open all year round – with different offerings throughout the season

Västervik Resort offers accommodation all year round. However, this does not mean that the entire summer range is available during all seasons.

Staffing, restaurants, swimming and activities have different opening hours. When we visited in May, not everything had opened yet, but we were still able to walk, enjoy the location and have a nice camping weekend.

If you are planning a visit during the low season, it is therefore a good idea to check both arrival procedures and which businesses are open.

Korpaholmarna – rocky islands with bridges between them

One of the best parts of our stay was the walk around the area with Carina and Stefan. We were impressed by the size of the campsite, but especially appreciated the nature by the water.

Here is Korpaholmarna, a group of seven small islands connected by bridges. You can walk out among the rocks, stop and admire the view or find a spot for a while by the sea.

This gives the facility a different feel than if it had only consisted of camping sites and service buildings. You can go from camping life to a small archipelago environment without having to take the car.

When we were here it was quite windy and jackets were worn between moments in the sun. The children we saw were dressed much more summerily and were running around in swimming trunks. We ourselves were content to walk and enjoy the environment!

Swimming at Västervik Resort

Västervik Resort offers both beach and rock swimming. If you want to swim in the sea, you can choose between sandy beaches and the rocks out on Korpaholmarna.

Today there is also a adventure pool with water slides, play pools, wave streams and an adventure mountain, among other things. It opened in 2014, after our visit, so it's not something we've tried ourselves.

The adventure pool has specific opening hours and requires admission. Therefore, check what applies to your stay and whether swimming is included in any accommodation package.

For us, the proximity to the sea was enough to appreciate the place, even without swimming weather. But for those planning a family vacation in the summer, the various swimming opportunities are of course part of the offer.

Activities, restaurants and holiday life

There is a lot to do at Västervik Resort, especially during the summer season. Activities include:

• Adventure golf and golf
• High altitude railway
• Padel and gym
• Playgrounds and children's activities
• Entertainment and shows

There are also restaurants, a convenience store and several opportunities to buy ice cream or something simpler to eat.

We didn't try out the full range of activities during our stay. Our camping weekend was mostly about walking and socializing, but even then it was clear that the resort had a lot to offer for those who wanted a more active holiday.

Check opening hours and booking conditions for the activities that are most important to you. Staying at the campsite does not automatically mean that all activities are included.

A nice evening with camper friends

Meeting people through blogging has given us many great moments. Meeting Carina and Stefan at Lysingsbadet was one of them. We started with a glass in the sun outside their camper and then went for a walk together to look around. Afterwards we returned to the campers and continued talking.

It was a long and enjoyable evening with lots of laughter, first outside by the camping furniture and later inside Carina and Stefan's camper. Sometimes it's meetings like this that you remember best from a place.

Excursions from the campsite

From Västervik Resort you can get into Västervik to walk, eat something delicious or see more of the city. The location is also suitable for those who want to combine camping life with excursions in the surrounding area.

Gamleby is another option in the area. We have both stayed at a campsite there and made a later visit to discover the troll sculptures on Garpedansberget.
