A family evening with tapas
We didn't have any particular reason to celebrate, but Peter's eldest son Robin thought the family should meet up and go out for a meal. We started at Robin and Alexandra's house, had a drink at Haymarket at Hötorget and then continued to Aqui Tapas & Bar.
Alexandra had been here before and raved about both the food and their mango daiquiri. Of course we wanted to try it too!
A table full of delicious tapas
Since we were a large group, we ordered the restaurant's tasting menu. When the food was about to arrive, the staff asked us to put away our personal belongings and move our glasses to the edges of the table. We soon understood why: there was a lot of food to be served!
The table was filled with, among other things, wheat tortillas with cheese and vegetables, fried potatoes, marinated chicken wings, grilled halloumi, garlic-fried shrimp and racks of lamb. We also got Spanish charcuterie, olives and manchego.
Everything was very good, but a few favorites stood out. They bacon-wrapped dates and the gratinated goat cheese on toast with honey were dishes we were happy to take another bite of. Mmmm!
There's also something special about eating together this way. The plates are passed around, everyone finds their favorites, and the meal takes its time.
Relaxed atmosphere and bottle juggling
The food was really good, but we appreciated the relaxed and almost family atmosphere just as much. The staff was happy and chatty and checked on us throughout the evening.
I sat so I could see the bar and also got some unexpected entertainment: bottle juggling! It added to the feeling of a lively and fun restaurant evening.
We had booked in advance but didn't get a table until 9 o'clock. For us, it was still a very successful evening with the family, good food and lots of laughter.
Aqui Tapas & Bar today
Aqui Tapas & Bar is still located on Kammakargatan, at the intersection with Sveavägen in central Stockholm. The restaurant offers an extensive tapas menu and also has a tasting menu for groups of at least six people.
When we checked the menu in October 2026, both bacon-wrapped dates and gratinated goat cheese on toast with honey were still available. However, our reviews and photos are from the family evening in 2017. See Aqui Tapas & Bar's website for the current menu and table reservations.

Good morning! Nice to wake up to this! Truly enticing in every way.Have only heard of Aqui&Tapas and it is on my list to visit. And even more so after your post. I like to eat tapas often when we are in Spain.
It's nice to see everyone and go out to eat. And tapas is always right.
I have often gone to the Boquerian in Moodgallerian. Mondo Tapas at Observatireilunden and a favourite is Tapas Vinbar- Valvet at Slussen. An old house with cosy vaults, good tapas and a lovely environment.
I have also visited Stockholm Tapas, but I think the quality there varies and it is very crowded between the tables, at least at their restaurant on Kungsholmen.
I return when I get to Aqui.

Looked delicious!!! The only place I have eaten tapas in Stockholm is STHLM Tapas and it was good the time I was there and then I have eaten it at a place called Tilltugg in Uppsala and it was probably slightly better. 😀 Like small picking food when you get many different flavours 🙂.

Ditte, absolutely, feel free to go there on occasion! 🙂 And thanks for more tips on tapas places! We have passed the Boquerian a few times and it looks good and nice, but it does not feel like you should go there when you are too hungry, but more when you want a snack for the drink!?
Lena, we usually make bacon-wrapped dates at home sometimes too, and then we also put an almond inside. Tasty 🙂

Tapas are very good. We tried the chain Pinchos in late autumn and it was also very good. Pinchos has a slightly different concept, where you sit at the table and order via an app on your phone (about new technology in the previous post).

Of course, in Stockholm there is a large selection, but I can certainly find tapas in Lidköping.

Tapas are always right. We recently ended our walking days along the Costa Brava with an evening at the village pub with tapas. The bill consisted of various "sticks" and flags that were attached to the dishes and the wine list was simply "red or white". Incredibly tasty and flavourful. We have tried to recreate some of the delicacies at home, with varying results.....
Now we have received several tips on good places in Stockholm!

Of course it's delicious! Plus, it's a really nice way to eat. Right now, the tapas concept seems to be catching on. In little Karlstad alone, a number of such restaurants have opened in recent years and they are super popular.

Absolutely LOVE tapas:-) It is what you live on when you are in Spain. But I have never actually visited a tapas place here in Stockholm, even though our local restaurant offers tapas for AW every day after 3 o'clock.
Very incredibly appetising food you show. The food photos are absolutely stunning and make me drool.
Like Ruth, I also dislike dates. Ruth and I seem to have a lot in common... not just an interest in football;-)

Oh how good, I really like tapas in all its forms... When we were in Spain, I lived largely on tapas:-). Can really recommend a great place in Vasastan Jim & Jacob as they serve super good sliders with a Swedish touch. They won the Stockholm Prize 2016.

Annie, they were quick to offer a vegetarian option, but vegan might be harder to get...?

Anonymous, we also tend to get inspired abroad or in a restaurant and then try to cook ourselves. Sometimes it turns out well, and sometimes not 😉.
Marina, nice that there are more tapas restaurants around the country! I like this way of eating, really no matter if it's Spanish or Lebanese or Asian... 🙂 ).
Ruth in Virginia, there was no one who went hungry from there if you say so ... It was a little too much, but not so hysterically much too much. There wasn't much left on the plates when we were done 😉.
BP, but of course you have to try the tapas at the local haket!!!! 🙂

Wow, that sounds good. The only problem for me is that I choose a place where I know I can park the car. Then it will be a smorgasbord at Ulriksdal or a festive dinner at Villa Källhagen. There I can park my motorhome or car in both places and eat in peace and quiet.

What a lovely tapas restaurant. I love tapas, but now of course the selection has been somewhat limited as I no longer eat meat. But, what does it matter as I am no longer out and about. It can be a pleasure just to watch.

Eating out is always nice. We actually treat ourselves to it often, almost every Friday we end the work week with a restaurant visit... It's so nice to just sit down and eat, not have to cook and wash dishes and so on Friday night. Mostly it's just me and my husband, but sometimes we have company with us. Since we do it often, it will of course not be in the most expensive places, but expensive does not always have to be equal to good...!

Steve, tapas probably works great if you're a vegetarian too! They asked if anyone in the party was a vegetarian, and if that had been the case, there would have been a few more vegetarian dishes.
Ninnie, how nice to end each week with a restaurant visit! And going out to eat is a luxury in itself, even if it's not a particularly expensive restaurant.

Lots of food and you can never leave hungry 😉 .
Tapas are not something I usually eat,
tapas are rarely if ever served in the eateries I visit,
I don't think tapas are really a rural thing 😉.
