From Cebu City to Malapascua Island in the Philippines

Although it was interesting to experience Cebu City, it is the quieter life at the beaches and on islands that attracts most in the Philippines. So we set off from Cebu City to the island of Malapascua.

From Cebu City in the morning

We started the journey from the hotel "Grand Emilia" in Cebu City in the morning. It is quite possible to take a bus, but together all four of us had quite a lot of luggage, so we chose to book a car. The journey took just over three hours, with a break on the way for some snacks and drinks. Then we arrived at Maya New Port, in the far north of the island of Cebu.

To the harbour Maya New Port

At Maya New Port we had to register in a book, including our name and phone number, and then we bought a ticket for the boat, which leaves every half hour. For the registration we paid 120 peso/person (about SEK 25) and for the boat ticket we paid 200 peso/person (about SEK 40).

Shortly thereafter, it was time to get on board and settle in. We were joined by a few more Swedes, a Dutch family and a bunch of Filipinos.

The crossing took about half an hour. The traditional Filipino boats (bangka) are incredibly nice, and also very stable, so it was a pleasant trip in the nice weather.

Arriving at Malapascua

After a few days in the intense city of Cebu, it was great to see the island of Malapascua in front of us. Here we were greeted by a beautiful sandy beach, swaying palm trees and turquoise blue water.

Further boat trip on Malapascua

We would move forward on the Malapascua, to the family that our friends Micke and Julia already know, and we were prepared to book a moped ride. Instead, the family came and picked us up with one of their boats. For Micke and Julia it was of course a fond reunion!

The family, whose activities include boat trips for tourists on Malapascua, took us on his boat to his part of the island, on the north side.

In addition to their boat tour business, they run a small, simple bar here, the Lighthouse Beach Bar, which has an incredibly idyllic waterfront location. How great was it to dock on a nice sandy beach, in a quieter part of the island?

The Lighthouse Beach Bar is located right next to a small sandy beach on the north-western part of the island, with great views of the sea. Here you can sunbathe and swim, listen to the waves and enjoy the tranquillity.

In the evening you have an incredible view of the sunset.

At the bar there are also two small cottages, which can be rented out to tourists. We live here now, and really enjoy this lovely place on the island. Continuation follows!
