Cool box that can handle roads and waves – we've got one for our motorhome and houseboat

We have purchased a new cool box: Smart Living Cool 50. We chose this one because it has wheels and handles, so we can easily move it between the motorhome and the houseboat. We need a cool box that can handle both roads and waves!

That's why we want a (new) cool box in our motorhome.

We have long carried a cool box in our motorhome to store drinks that we want to keep cold. The motorhome's refrigerator is often full of food, making it difficult to find space for beer, wine, mineral water, iced tea (a favourite in southern Europe in the summer!), soft drinks and other beverages.

Our solution has been a cool box that we store in the motorhome's garage, which stays cold when we are connected to electricity. When we are wild camping, the cool box loses its coldness after a while, but since we only store drinks in it, the worst that happens is that the beer gets a little warm...

The problem with the cool box we had was that it couldn't keep things cool when the summer heat arrived, and it only stayed cool for a very short time without being plugged in.

We also wanted a cool box that we could easily move between our motorhome and houseboat, so that we could have extra space to chill drinks when we were at home on the boat.

A new cool box: Smart Living Cool 50

We have now acquired a new cool box. We looked around at different cool boxes at the trade fair. Elmia Caravan Motorhome 2025, and in the end we settled on Smart Living Cool 50. What made us fall in love with this one was:

• Wheels and handles, so we can easily move the cool box between the motorhome and the houseboat.
• Spacious, but rather tall than wide, which means it does not take up too much floor space.
• Refrigerator only, no freezer – Freezers take up a lot of space, and we only want to use the box to chill drinks.
• Extra battery could be purchased for longer durability when not connected to electricity.

We purchased the cool box from Camping4u, and it should perhaps be clarified that we paid for the product.

This fits in the cool box

One of the advantages of this cooler, in our opinion, is that it is very spacious. In the picture below, there are a total of 12 wine and cola bottles in the space, and it is not even full, especially not in terms of height.

Capacity, batteries and noise level

When you unplug the cool box from the mains, according to the manufacturer, it should be able to maintain an internal temperature of around +5 degrees for approximately 24 hours. How long and how well the cold is retained is probably affected by factors such as the ambient temperature and what the box is filled with.

When we tested it at home in our houseboat by unplugging the cord, we found that the cooling lasted slightly less than 24 hours, but that was still a big difference compared to our old cool box.

In terms of noise level, we can say that the cool box makes a slight noise from time to time when it is cooling, and then periodically switches to silent mode.

We have also decided to buy an extra battery, in case we want to camp a little longer and still be able to enjoy cold drinks.

Summary with conclusions

We have not yet tested the cooler on wheels in the motorhome, nor have we tested how it performs on a hot summer day, so that remains to be seen. What we can conclude now is that it has a large capacity, keeps things cooler than the cooler we had before, and is easy to roll around with the help of wheels and handles. We think we will be very happy with this cool box.
