Idyllic campsites in Europe

So, what do we mean by idyllic campsites in Europe? To be honest, we don't have an exact definition for it, we've simply gone with what our hearts tell us. In other words, these are places where we have enjoyed ourselves. They are often beautiful nature and peaceful surroundings - often smaller and simpler campsites, but in some cases also some larger and more luxurious places.

1. France: Camping Le Site de Castelbouc at Gorges du Tarn

The Gorges du Tarn is a stunningly beautiful natural area with a long winding river. People come here to paddle, or just to relax. Many of the campsites are relatively simple, but instead you can enjoy the luxury of nature. Service: Basic services, canoe hire and a small shop.

2. Åland: Degersand Resort in Eckerö

We liked this campsite! The pitches down by the beach are fantastic. There is also a charming bar down by the beach and a restaurant with really good food. Service: Standard services including restaurant and bar.

3rd Switzerland: Family campsite Aaregg in Brienz

As we stood on this campsite in Switzerland, we thought over and over again: What a luxury it is to go camping instead of staying in a hotel. Here we had the absolute best location by the lake. If you want to, you can go hiking, go boating or maybe try hang-gliding. Service: Usual services and restaurant.

4. Sardinia: Camping Acapulco in Palau

We travelled to Palau and Camping Acapulco, to set off from here and take a boat trip around the La Maddalena archipelago. It turned out that the small campsite was a gem - filled with boulders, small swimming spots, irregular sites and magical views. Service: Usual services and restaurant.

5. Estonia: Vana Olgina Mõis at Narva

Yes, this is very close to Russia. But we have fond and special memories here! This is a small, personalised guesthouse with camping, filled with old gadgets and creative decorations. Nearby is Narva with all its Swedish history. Service: Basic services, including electricity.

6. Croatia: Camping Šimuni on the island of Pag

Camping Šimuni is a large and luxurious campsite, in the upper price range, which has managed to keep the natural feel. The beach is fantastic and the buildings are made of wood and stone. Service: Everything including restaurants, shops, beauty centres and lots of activities.

7. Germany: Main Camping in Miltenberg

Main Camping in Miltenberg has a fantastic location on the Main River. If you get a spot by the river, you'll have an incredible view of all the boats going by. On the other side of the water, the cosy little town awaits! Service: Standard service and a simple bar/restaurant.

8. Albania: Lake Shkodra Resort by Shkoder

It's certainly been a long time since we visited Albania with our motorhome, but we won't forget this campsite. What a beautiful location by the lake, with the high mountains as a backdrop! A place that offers a relaxed atmosphere. Service: Standard services including restaurant and bar.

9. Finland: Poroholma Camping in Rauma

Rauma is an incredibly beautiful wooden town, and a Unesco heritage site, founded in 1442. Poroholma Camping is well located for visiting the city, but we also liked the atmosphere here. Certainly intense with many tourists, but also relaxed and happy, with restaurants and boats. Service: Usual services and restaurants.

10. Corsica: Camping Paduella in Calvi

We enjoyed Camping Paduella in Calvi because of the peaceful atmosphere under the shady pine trees. The service houses are nice and it is easy to walk to town or the beach. Service: Usual services including restaurant and small shop.

11th Poland: Camping Wagabunda in Mikolajki

Camping Wagabunda is a small campsite in a part of Poland that is quite unknown to Swedes. The campsite itself is nice, but our experience was probably also influenced by the lovely surroundings, with canal boat trips on the Masurian lakes. Service: Usual services including restaurant.

12th Austria: Camping Panorama in Salzburg

When we visited Salzburg, we stayed at Camping Panorama for quite some time, and we fell in love with this campsite. The campsite is well maintained and you have a beautiful panoramic view of Salzburg, with the mountains in the background. Service: Usual services including restaurant.

13th Spain: Gran Camping in Zarautz

Another campsite with a panoramic view is Gran Camping in Zarautz, Spain. It's been many years since we were here, but we won't forget the views of the beach and mountains. Service: Usual service and small shop.

14. Czech Republic: Autocamp Sedmihorky in Turnov

If you want to enjoy the Czech countryside while enjoying good service at a campsite, Autocamp Sedmihorky is an excellent choice. It offers a restaurant, activities and a beach as well as proximity to castles and dramatic natural areas. Service: Usual services, restaurants and activities.
