Practical tips for traveling by ferry

Travelling by ferry is different from flying, and there are a few things that make a big difference to the experience:

  • Book well in advance. Prices vary widely depending on demand and season.
  • Choose a cabin on overnight journeys. This will make your journey much more comfortable and you will arrive well rested.
  • Compare departure times. Sometimes a daytime departure can be cheaper than a night-time departure.
  • Bring your car if you want to explore more. In destinations such as Bornholm or the Baltic States, it offers great freedom.
  • Travel mid-week if possible. This is often both quieter and cheaper.
  • Please use Ferryhopper for planning and booking ferry trips – a handy tool for comparing routes between different destinations.
