Amusement parks in northern Germany - 6 exciting parks

Have you visited any amusement parks in northern Germany? There are several classic amusement parks with exciting and daring attractions, but also several parks that stand out from the crowd. For example, how about a Serengeti park, a summer toboggan run, a car city and a dinosaur land?

Amusement parks in northern Germany

The Germans know about amusement parks! Last year, when I was doing research for a post about travelling with children or grandchildren in Germany I realised that there are endlessly many amusement parks, theme parks, water parks, zoos and other types of parks with entertainment. It was not easy to choose!

We have visited the cowboy park ourselves. El Dorado in Templin in the federal state of Brandenburg. A really fun experience as we saw live cowboy shows and drank beer and ate food in a "salon". In today's post, we recommend six interesting amusement parks in northern Germany, selected in cooperation with the German Tourist Board. Enjoy!

1. Heide Park (Lower Saxony)

Heide Park is the largest amusement park in the German state of Lower Saxony. With more than 40 different attractions and various exciting shows, it is the most popular family park in northern Germany. The question is whether you dare to try rides like Big Loop, KRAKE or Scream. I (Helena) am super cowardly when it comes to heights, but maybe you are more courageous?

  • Address: Heide Park Resort, Heide Park 1, 29614 Soltau.
  • Day ticket: Adults €49 and children (older than 3 years) €38.
  • Opening hours: From late March to early November: 10:00 - 18:00/19:00.
  • Current affairs (corona): Access to Heide Park is currently only allowed with a dated online ticket purchased from the official Heide Park Online Ticket Shop.

2nd Serengeti Park (Lower Saxony)

Serengeti Park offers a unique combination of zoo and theme park. Here you can go on safari with more than 1500 wild and exotic animals from different countries. For example, during a 10-kilometre journey you can meet lions, tigers, rhinos, antelopes, elephants and different kinds of monkeys. The park also has more than 40 different rides and different types of shows.

3. Hansa Park (Schleswig-Holstein)

Hansa Park is located on the Baltic Sea coast, so you can combine a visit to the park with a seaside holiday. In the vicinity are, among other things, beautiful Timmendorfer Strandwith its classic "beach baskets". The amusement park has lots of different rides, both for adventurous youngsters (and adults!) and for smaller children. The areas are divided into different themes, such as Hansaland, Vikingaland and Adventure Land.

  • Day ticket: Adults (older than 12 years) €40 and children (older than 4 years) €31.
  • Opening hours: From late March to mid-October: 10:00 -18:00/19:00.

4. summer toboggan run & monkey forest Malchow (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)

The federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has a park that combines a summer toboggan run with a monkey forest. Yes, why not? This park is home to a large family of Berber monkeys and Quessant sheep, the smallest breed of sheep in the world. And of course, the 800 metre long summer toboggan run offers plenty of action.

  • Day ticket: Summer toboggan run about 3 euros and monkey forest about 5 euros.
  • Opening hours: From early April to mid-October: 9:00 - 18:00.

5th Bilstad Wolfsburg (Lower Saxony)

The car city of Wolfsburg is considered a special experience, and not just for car fans. Here you can discover the history of the car, take a test drive or look behind the scenes of the huge VW plant in Wolfsburg. The two 48 metre high towers are famous landmarks in the city, and are used to store new cars before they move on. Guided tours are available and you can also visit the ZeitHaus museum, featuring classic cars and contemporary art.

6th Dinosaur Land Rügen (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)

At the largest nature and leisure park in Rügen, you can experience full-size dinosaurs along a 1.5 km adventure trail. Here you can also learn a lot about these mighty prehistoric animals. While you're on the beautiful island of Rügen, take the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful beaches, long piers and white limestone cliffs. The cosy and historically interesting town of Rügen is not far away either. Stralsund.

      Not everyone can like everything 🙂 Rides are not really my thing, but slightly different parks can be fun I think! Then it also depends on which company you are travelling with!

    In the south of Germany, in Rust, there is Europapark. A fantastic park for all ages. Highly recommended, when it's not corona time.

    I don't know if you have visited and blogged about Walsrode Bird Park, about ten kilometres south of Hamburg; otherwise it is my tip. A fantastic park for the whole family, in addition to all the birds in the world, a botanical park and a large playground. I have visited the park three times, the first time already in 1987. The last visit was with the children who were then 11-13 years old and who at first were a little hesitant about our choice of excursion, but afterwards they were lyrical. I have sent pensioners to the park who have also been impressed. If you go there in the spring, you can experience a huge rhododendron park in bloom.
