AI controls Swedes' travel choices

A new survey from hotel and travel search site momondo shows that over half of Swedes would consider changing their destination based on AI recommendations – especially if it means a cheaper alternative.

One in four Swedes (26 %) use AI for inspiration, while 24 percent use it to find the best prices. One in five also uses help during the trip itself, for example for translations or local tips.

  • 24 % believes that AI gathers more insights from different sources
  • 22 % think the recommendations are more up-to-date and accurate
  • 17 % say they trust AI more than social media today

Despite this, human recommendations remain important to many, with one in five (24 percent) stating that they primarily trust tips from friends, family or people with similar interests.

This is what frustrates Swedes the most when booking travel

Extra costs for luggage and supplements are what frustrate Swedes the most when booking a trip. In the latest Sifo survey by travel agency Ticket, nearly 4 out of 10 people state that these fees are the biggest annoyance. This is followed by difficulties in finding trips at a good price and comparing options between different booking sites. Top 5 – this is experienced as the most frustrating:

  1. Paying extra for luggage and other extras (39.5 %)
  2. Finding good prices (33.8 %)
  3. Difficult to compare prices between different sites (19.6 %)
  4. That the flight times don't match your preferences (19.3 %)
  5. That it feels time-consuming (19.1 %)

Two out of five Swedes want to start their vacation at the bar – regardless of time

Should airports be allowed to serve beer early in the morning? The debate has gained momentum since new proposals were raised to limit the serving of alcohol to travelers during the morning hours.

According to a survey commissioned by hotel and travel search site momondo, nearly two in five Swedes (36 percent) say that a beer or other alcoholic beverage before departure is a given part of their holiday trip, regardless of time. If you also include those who like to have their first airport drink after 8 a.m., the figure totals 42 percent.

Göta Canal attracts more people in an uncertain global environment

Interest in vacationing along the Göta Canal continues to grow. Ahead of this year's season, the booking situation is approximately 30 percent better compared to the same period last year. The increase applies to the entire range of services along the canal, from hotel and bicycle packages to camping pitches. At the same time, the number of international visitors is also increasing, with a clear increase among Norwegians.

A clear trend ahead of the summer is that more and more people are discovering the canal as a destination for a driving holiday. The new concept of the ”Swedish Hurtigruten”, where travelers combine the archipelago and the canal, has also become popular to book.

Reflection of the week

We'd love to have an airport beer, but maybe not a full one. so early. However, I remember when we flew home from New Zealand – a trip that started with a domestic flight and then another connection – and we were served breakfast three times (because it was always morning somewhere). For the third breakfast, we thought it would be nice to have a beer …
