Palavas Les Flots is located on a narrow isthmus outside Montpellier in France. This is a charming little town with boats, canals, outdoor cafés and a cable car.

Palavas les Flots in France
Palavas les Flots is a little gem that almost feels like a little Venice. It is located in the Hérault department in the Occitan region of southern France.
Fishing, tourism and cable car across the canal
Palavas les Flots sits on a narrow spit of land with water on both sides, so it's no wonder that both fishing and tourism play a major role here. The fishing boats crowd the tourist boats and along the waterfront there are plenty of restaurants serving fresh fish and mussels, recently taken from the sea. There are also plenty of ice cream parlours and shops selling summer dresses, swimwear and beach toys.
We have had fantastic summer weather today with sunshine and around 25 degrees, so it has been a very nice day. We have strolled back and forth along the quays and looked at boats, and at the very special cable car that is here.

We couldn't resist shopping for a bath towel each either. Look at the picture and you'll see why!

RV park in Palavas les Flots
Tonight we are at a large caravan park here in Palavas les Flots, which we were tipped off about. The site is nicely located by a marina with easy walking distance to the centre and there are good services.

More to see and do in the neighbourhood
In the vicinity of Palavas les Flots, we can recommend, among other things, visits to cosy Sète and at delicious Carcassonne. If you're travelling north, we can also recommend the stunningly beautiful natural area Gorges du Tarn.

How nice! And cosy with the cable car over the river. Can really understand the purchase of your bath towels. Absolutely perfect! New visit here for me but in Montpellier and the surrounding areas I have been. Is actually a France fanatic.

Inga M says:
Of course you should buy those beach towels! A cable car across the river was unusual, most cities build bridges instead 😉.

Frankie & Co says:
Ah what lovely bath towels - they are probably from the generation before you/camper vans because folkabuss is a bit the archetype of freedom on wheels - but the development goes on 🙂 .
God roll our Euro-trotters!

Ditte, I understand that you are a France fan! France is soooo beautiful! Fantastic to drive around this country!
Inga M, agree! Do not know if it was difficult with the bridge because there are quite high boats underneath? And so they earn a little money on each trip... (16 kr to go over...)
Frankie & Co, of course they were nice! Yes, it's a little more hippie car, but feels just right anyway!
Steve, we are super happy with our new bath sheets!
🙂
BP, when we saw the towel displayed outside the shop we had a good laugh too!
🙂
Rolle and Carina, there are many nice places in France! Everything we pass is beautiful!!!
